Thanksgiving. What are you all up to? Have plans?

Laurie and I are headed to Salt Lake to see my parents. We are going to drive. There is no way I can spend 14 hours in my wife's car (Scion IQ) and I am kind of leery of trusting my car for that long of a trip (175,000 miles or so). It's 800 miles each way, so it's not like a quick trip to Seattle and back. The AAA membership I have is only good for 200 miles of towing. So, we rented a Chrysler 200. I originally had a Dodge Avenger reserved, but they were out, so we got the Chrysler instead. Just running around town today, it's not a bad car. It had tons of room and is not uncomfortable. Should be a good car for the trip. We are taking off early tomorrow morning and coming back to the Portland area Saturday.

Kinda traditional here. Gonna have our kids over and just the one sister-in-law and her kids. It's ok. However, I'm starting to feel a little cranky about always putting on these dinner parties, both for the holidays and through the year. I love my kids and family in general, but nobody but us ever puts on a dinner. I love the dinner, the family and the talk around the table, but it's expensive and sometimes I feel a little unappreciated. Oh well, I'll get over it. Just grousing a little with my friends here.

Big family get together at my brother-in-laws and being genuinely thankful to have Nina here with me and for both of us to be alive. Also for all the good people (present company included) who prayed, or thought, or whatever for us over the last week.

Kids, grandkids, some in-laws and some friends coming over.

We always seem to be the ones to have the holiday dinners, but that's OK. I don't have to drive home and the pool table gets a workout.

Besides, all we do is the bird, stuffing and pies. Everyone else brings the assorted sides.

My son recently bottled a batch of braggot and from what I've sampled it's really good and it should be ready for Thanksgiving.

They did, but it was going to cost quite a bit more.

I'm getting my kid on Wednesday for the weekend, Thanksgiving at my sister's boyfriend's house with the family, then taking my boy backpacking Friday and Saturday in one of Missouri's fine state parks

All the kids will have at least one day overlap. All (3) kids will be home at the same time (rare). Baby girl's car died and her big brother has a spare vehicle he's giving her. It makes him really happy to be able to do that for his baby sister.
Other kid will be home, too. Just went back to finish his last year of college after brain fart/
It's all good.

New grand baby and all the sisters in at the same time. Thrilled to be all together, first time in a long time. Three daughters, new grand baby and son in law.

Parent's home for Thanksgiving. All Lynn and I have to bring are four pies. Had a strange request this year: Two Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pies. I mean wtf? Isn't regular pecan pie poison enough? There was a time that apple juice was reduced and used in place of corn syrup. That was delicious. My favorite is to peel and core 6 large granny smiths. Use lard and a deep dish. Too lazy to weave the top crust anymore. Sweet potatoes is my second favorite. Lard? why not? it is all bad for you anyway.

We are going to bring our redneck horseshoe game over and set that up too. Mum wants us there at 11am to help her cook. (they always have a fridge full of Yuenglings so I'm game ) Parents celebrated their 80th birthdays this year. Dad says he is going to retire. So we do have much to be thankful for.

I'll be taking my 2 daughters and driving tuesday night up to CT to visit my sister (about 400 miles) - then thursday morning up to VT to spend thanksgiving with my brother and my parents (200 miles) - then back to CT on friday to hang with the rest of my family, and see friends I grew up with - then back to VA saturday night (I don't do the weds or sunday driving any more - I don't trust myself not to just plow into someone on principal for screwing up traffic)

Heather (my wife), Jackson (my son) and myself will be taking a short drive down to my moms. Should be a great time, my 3 younger sisters will be there and my mom will be entertained by all 6 grandkids at one time (all under the age of 8). That being said Heather's gonna have to drive home, I'm gonna need a few with all those kids around.

Man, that pecan pie sounds good. Most oldest has a SO making her first visit that's coming and that's what I requested she bring. Sounds like I let her off too easy.

I'm doing the normal friends and family dinner, we all live very close. I wish all of you the best as we celebrate and contemplate the many things and people in our lives to be thankful for, but let's not forget those that serve and protect.

This year my wife and two daughters (2 1/2 years and 1 month) will be spending thanksgiving with 12 others. Our extended Navy family, hopefully they enjoy a nice home cooked meal that isn't galley food in the comfort of my house. Its nice to get them away from the base for a few hours at least and if their LPO doesn't take care of them I'm not sure who will. Wish us luck, even though we do this for them a few holidays out of the year and its always good some extra luck never hurts.

Here's wishing you all a very enjoyable and blessed Thanksgiving.

As for my own plans...Well I was gonna cook the whole shebang for my current lady, my big Sis & her hubby....but my gal changed her plans and now is gonna stay close to home with her family instead of making the 90 mile drive to my place for the weekend. Likewise, my Sis is staying in home in TX, as the drive is really painful for her (suffering from Chrone;s disease).

To cap it all off, the CEO of the company I work for asked me if I want to go to Whicita to conduct the annual year-end inventory at the branch there on Friday. It's a tongue in cheek thing...when he asks something like that it means he really wants it to happen & if it doesn't then there may be other repercussions....

But I am thankful for all my friends here, and close around, my health, and for my job and all too, when so many are still struggling.

Have a great Turkey Day everyone!

Thinking of you and your family. Been there. Sometimes the most meaningful holiday experiences come when you least expect them. I hope they have a great time with your 'extended family'.

Yep! Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!

We didn't have a traditional turkey dinner...we went and got sushi! My oldest boy goes to a Japanese school and this is the last year for it so we didn't want to interrupt his school schedule. It was still a great dinner though and I am thankful that I am home with my wife and two boys and not deployed downrange...life is good. Happy T-day to the BA.com hooligans!!!!

Had a good day today. My entire family (except for one brother) were all together at my parents for dinner. So, it was my mom and dad, Laurie and I, and three of my brothers and their wives. Thankful to see all of them. I think it was the first time that most of us were together in quite a few years.

That sounds like a great day alright, Soren.

And MAYBE the BEST thing about it might have been that of the three football games broadcast today, you didn't have to sit through watchin' your San Diego Chargers embarrass themselves again today, huh!

We ran 3 full shifts sorting your Christmas packages on Thanksgiving day (yeah, it's already started). So remember, just because the friendly letter carrier wasn't at your door, USPS employees behind the scenes, were hard at work.

Had a GREAT day. Fisrt went out on a short ride on some back roads close to my house, only saw a total of 3 cars. (2 were on the highway I had to cross) Got back home, cooked breakfast for my wife and son. Finished up fence I've been working on. The Jack and I took out the Dodge and did a little off roading. Got to moms by noon, kids had a blast, food was great, ended up with a new puppy. It puked in the car less than 2 minutes from the house. Later went out into the Walmart madness and picked up a game for my wife, came home had a beer and went to sleep. All together a really great day.

Very true! Not only did I not have to suffer the pain of the Chargers embarrassing themselves by not showing up to the game to play (looks like the Jets forgot to show up to their game), we didn't watch any football at all yesterday (although I did keep checking the scores on my phone).
