Let me start off by saying that I love coffee. I like good coffee (no, I don't buy Starbucks, we have plenty of other local places that have much better coffee). I guess one of the latest things is those K-Cup single cup brewing systems. I'm sorry, but I don't get it. I like brewing coffee a pot at a time, not a cup at a time, it's not enough coffee at all. Then there's the price. Those coffee makers are around $200. I bought my current coffee pot (Black and Decker) three years ago for $30. Not to mention the price of the coffee, between $15 and $20 for a dozen of single serve coffee packet cup things that are designed to only make a 6 ounce cup of coffee. That's nuts. I can get a pound of my favorite coffee ( Coffee Rush) for $12. And even when I do get a coffee to go (20 oz coffee with three shots of espresso is my favorite), it's only $3 and is sooooo good. Anyway, I don't get the whole K-Cup thing. Rant Done.

Hmmmm...well Soren, all I can here is you MIGHT wanna consider cuttin' down on your caffeine intake JUST a bit. You see, FIRST it's just these little occasional rants like this one that you'll find yourself compelled to post, but THEN it COULD progress into full-blown caffeine-induced rants about a WIDE array of topics, big AND small...like say why some people are so overweight, OR those superfluous 'u's that the Brits, Canadians and Aussies throw into their spelling. Yep, it COULD even eventually lead toward a tendency to manic behavior IN GENERAL! (...nope, and I suuuure wouldn't want ya to end up like "some guy I know" around here...now HE'S scary!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Its convenient! You get lots of flavor choices. They taste just fine for us non coffee snobs/connoisseurs. Its just enough for one serving in the small low coffee consumption household. I like my Keurig.

Speaking about coffee snobs I just saw the movie "the bucket list" again. That'll teach you about coffee.

Soren, I have no idea what you are talking about when you mention K-Cup. All I know is I love a good cup o' joe. And the stuff I make is the BEST, the VERY best this side of the continental divide (well at least North of the 49th). And I refuse to conform to such contemporary terms as 'coffee snob' because I only want a decent cup of coffee, which does not make me a friggin' snob. This begs the question, "what is a decent cup of coffee?" And the answer is quite simple... a decent cup of coffee is coffee as we know it, only NOT... and I emphasis NOT made from rancid beans (pre-ground or not) such as those found in mainstream brands such as Folgers, Maxwell House or Nabob. It's that simple.
Live to love, love to live.

Hog Wash. One shot makers are a waste of counter space. However, these Keurig makers are fabulous when you are hung over and have had only 3 hours sleep though while visiting friends. No searching for filters, nor banging about in the kitchen while every one is trying to sleep. No worries about the pot being clean either. Great stuff when a guest. Was considering purchasing one because of the "My K-Cup" accessory (allows use of your own coffee). Yet after consideration using a K-Cup kinda defeats the point of a single shot doesn't it? Having to wash out the little bugger. Fumble about for it, load it up, screw that. Most times one has to prepare breakfast anyways, so why not get the grind on? And press a nice spot of java to enjoy with the morning calories? Then there is the cost. 63 cents a shot? Really? Yesterday was not the day I was born... And this ahem, advantage in having various flavors of coffee to choose from? What flavor is black? Flavored coffee? omg might as well drink a mountain dew. Arabica beans and various roast intensities are true Flavored coffees. French pressed Java, the only way to speed.

Keith I wouldn't call you ,or anyone else a coffee snob 'cause you want good coffee.I love good coffee too. I class a coffee snob as someone who would only drink "Kenyan/Tanzanian Mocca but only made with the beans grown on the left side of the hill and picked by masai virgins." So I hope you or anyone on the forum didn't think I was refering to them when I used the term.I wasn't

Well shucks, I wouldn't consider myself a "coffee snob" but more of a connoisseur, or simply a " liker of black liquid caffeine". I got one of dem der Keurig's, (wife's idea) but normally use the ol' $20 Mr. Coffee. Also have my French (spit) Press and my dad's old campfire perculator. Ocassionaly I'll like something flavored (with whisky) but normally just strong, but not bitter. The K-cups are my wifes thing and I'll have one every now and then, really not bad but I do agree they are expensive for what you get out of it.
BTW I like water from the garden hose too and I've consumed many many gallons of "Navy Coffee"

I don't drink coffee, and my wife might have it 3 times a year. She has a french press hidden somewhere... I've only had to turn down a guests request for coffee in the morning once When we have family dinners, it's understood that there will be no coffee served. All that being said, now my wife says she might want one of those Kuerig machines. You can get re-useable cups to just fill with whatever brand you like. If it makes hot chocolate I might be interested

Yep there are reusable cups, last time we had one it found its way into the garbage dispossal, end of that story.
We tried one of the hot chocolates, (can't remember the brand) but it SUCKED! However if you buy the little packs or what-have-you, just put some in a mug place it under the maching leave out the filter and brew. (BTW you can set the temp) Works great for this, instant hot water. Works great for hot tea also.
However I actually prefer my hot chocolate made on the stove top with milk.

My brother has a K-cup thingy, he and his wife don't drink coffee, but use it for hot chocolate and coffee drinking guest. I'm sitting here in my home office, it's 8:21 am, I'm on my third ten cup carafe of coffee. I never just have one cup, a K-cup thingy would bankrupt me, that and I'm lazy.

At that rate heck ya it'd bankrupt you. Now that's some coffee consumption.
Remind me of a guy I work with on occasion. We order coffee for the class, usually five gallons. We also order one for him and he usually finished off the classes coffee by the end of the day as well.

I friggin love the Keurig! There I said it. It's actually real convenient for so much and with my schedule convenience is the main reason I own one. I have a huge family and they just pop a pod in when they're over and I don't have to be the one serving them. It's also great for Tea drinkers (although I don't expect any self-respecting Limey to make their tea this way). You can also load em up with any coffee you choose with the attachment that comes with it. That being said, we still use the stove top espresso pot when my Italian half comes to visit. If time permitted that would be my only choice for hot beverage.
PS I still drink from the hose and bandage my wounds with electrical tape.
You buy the ticket, you're gonna see the show.

I'm with Soren on this one.
We have a percolator, a cheap Proctor Silex drip machine and our #1 unit which is a Made in USA Bunn.
We use whatever kind of coffee is on sale, either Maxwell House, Chock Full o Nuts, Melita, Yuban, etc. We drink a lot of coffee and ain't gonna get a Keurig.
Another thing, I wouldn't go into a Starbucks if it was the last place on earth and they were giving it away. I only go into Dunkin Donuts if it's an emergency. I can get just as good coffee for a lot less at almost any Quickie-Mart around.

The only time I will go inside one is after 700 miles in the saddle and I need some speed and some grub. Yeah it usually cost me 15 bucks for a triple expresso con leche and a panini but the benefits and somewhat quick service allows proper time to collect oneself sitting outside. That and if the place is rather empty, well never mind...Dude!
That said I have been inside a starfahcks about 5 times, no make that 4 times.

I have something from Green Mountian called Nantucket Blend (I think) and a can of Cafe Bustelo for the insert thingy.

That's the thing right there. On weekdays, I get up fix a four cup pot (which is actually two coffee cups full). When that's done, I head to work. On the way, I hit the drive through at Coffee Rush and get a 20oz Coffee Rush (20oz coffee with three shots of espresso). That is usually half gone by the time I get to work (If I am on the bike, I still stop but get the 12oz and drink it there before heading to work). One I am at work, I top off the cup with the coffee we have at work (good local roasted stuff) and I'll do that three or four more times throughout the day until lunch time. So, overall, close to a gallon of coffee a day. After lunch it's usually water and/or a Java Monster.
I love coffee. Even when I get ice cream, the first thing I'll look for is some kind of coffee ice cream.

Although my ex had some kind of what I'll call an "espresso machine", I don't know what a double latte ...what ever is. I've got a Starbucks about 4 or 5 blocks away from my home on the same street I live on, drive by it every time I leave home, never been in one.

Btw, my wife recently purchased one of those Hamilton Beach BrewStation models that doesn't have a pot(I'm tryin' like hell here NOT to add: "to piss in", but I guess I failed, huh), and so far we like it a lot.
All ya do is stick your mug(coffee that is...NOT your face) under the opening and ya get one good cup of coffee after another.

Well Rich, sorry, I'm gonna have to slightly disagree with ya here. You see, I'll bet there are a whole lot of folks out there who probably think anyone who spends $10,000 or more for a new motorcycle(you know, one of those "murdercycles") are "nuts" too. And so point is, "it's their money", that is IF "they" have it and aren't "going into hock" to purchase whatever it is they want to purchase. And not only that, but yes, in many cases higher priced commodities ARE of superior quality. (...well EXCEPT for Harley-Davidsons, of course)

Nah, I ain't going for your argument. Pants you wear to cover your a$$, shoes for your feet to make walking easier, and water as a neccesity of life are not to be compared to a mostly "luxury" form of transportation. (Although a motorcycle can be seen as being a practical way to save fuel.) All the above are pure excess in a culture that can take the most mundane of things and turn it into hyperbolic extravagence.

Like Cynthia, I do the espresso thing in the evenings when I just want a cup. Every morning I have a pot (12 cup) of coffee before anyone else wakes up, make about two more during the day. I have a Bunn with thermal carafe, works great stays hot for hours, if need be. Like the French press too. Good coffee is really a fairly cheap luxury; though some Jamaican stuff can go for $40.00 a pound (it is good though) most are much less expensive.
