Beware the shaft drive if it looks like a PO may have done too many burnouts.

She's a cream puff! The exhaust is in the bed of the truck. Not bad for 250 bucks. I plan on making it run and selling it for a couple grand.

Sounds like another..ahem.."dream" project to me here, Dave!

(...sure hope it doesn't turn into a nightmare for ya, kid...though in THIS case, this Kawa looks to be in a whole lot better shape than that Honda was when ya picked her up)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

yeah, after I had those two Dreams for 5 years without much progress, I sold them to a local bike shop where they sit without much progress

Dude that thing is ugggly, but for 250 bucks ya cant pass that up.
However I would get that thing started and sell it fast, ya don't want the neighbors to see that in the driveway.

I've got a friend who picked up one of these a couple years back. After a couple hundred miles the driveshaft failed (hence the earlier warning). He spent big $$$ to fix it and has put thousands of miles on it since. It was originally intended to be a gap bike, but now he likes it so much, he says it's a keeper.

(still kinda ugly though)

Yeah, I bought it with the sole intention of parting it out (just the final drive is worth a couple hundred bucks), but when I was talking to a friend that owns a bike shop, he told me he had a motor for it. We are going to do a quick swap, put it on the sales floor, and split whatever profit we get out of it. It has a clean title, and isn't missing anything major. I'm not in love with this bike by any means, but I am all about the bottom line for profit

pulled the motor today, hopefully install the donor tomorrow

donor motor is in a frame still, so there is some extra work to be done... this is NOT an easy motor to get out!

So I have the new motor in the bike and I'm starting to put it all back together... Need a damn shoehorn to get everything to fit!

I have a bunch of wiring to clean up, I plan on changing the handlebars and removing the windshield and swapping out some cosmetic pieces. Hopefully tomorrow I can fire it up by the end of the day.

Took the carbs completely apart today to clean them and make sure there were no problems, rejetted and reinstalled, now this thing runs great! It actually hauls ass, I was surprised at how torquey the motor is

I might just have to do that this week
Won't be back at the bike shop until Monday at least, but hopefully after a few small cosmetic changes I'll be able to put it in craigslist before next weekend

Okay, so now the bike is ready to be sold, I'm gonna ask $2000 as is but I plan on having it repainted the week after Christmas so the price will be $2500 then. Cosmetically, it has new handlebars, the windshield is gone, and I relocated the horn from in front of the forks to the side where the reflectors used to be. The carbs have been completely cleaned and re-jetted for the Vance & Hines exhaust, the electrical system is charging at 14 volts at 2000 rpm. The shaft drive has been fully inspected and all splines greased. Oil changed with synthetic 10w/40 and coolant system was completely flushed. New tires front and rear. The bike rides very smooth, shifts easily and accelerates fast. The donor motor came out of a bike showing 14,xxx miles.

I blacked out the air filter covers, and will probably black out the blue on the engine case covers tomorrow. The plan for the paint job is a simple black with a 3" wide silver stripe right down the center of the fenders and tank

When I retire I plan on buying something like that and having a tour round USA and Canada for a few months. I will keep you in mind.

Well the ugly blue is all gone, spent the day in the body and paint shop today and came up with this new design for it. Should be getting back to the bike shop on Monday to bolt it all together and roll it up front to the showroom!
