Well hopefully Triumph will respond THIS time by offering a larger displacement version of the present Bonneville line...something I believe MANY of us have been clamoring for almost since the first new Bonnies left the Hinckley factory.
In this way Triumph could offer an air-cooled Twin that might be ALMOST as fast as this Honda CB1100 Four, and just as retro-styled for riders looking for this style of bike.
(...though unfortunately I think Bloor's Boys sometimes come across nearly as deaf to the wants and concerns of us retro air-cooled fanciers as did the fellas who ran the old Meriden factory into the ground)

The way small displacement bikes are coming out these days (CBR250, etc), I doubt Triumph would do a Thunderbird size "standard", but ya never know... Maybe just bump up the entire twin line and come out with a new "entry" level range?

The way corporate goes, look at what they did to our Americas and speedies. Why because they thought that is what we wanted! geez. One can only imagine them trying to emulate this beautiful CB1100 (and it is one beaut of a bike!). Heck the tank indents would go away for one. They would resize it so a 4' 0" person could touch the ground. And they might even resize the wheels so it can be fat in the corners.

Honda has done a beautiful job on the styling. Unlike the new CB500(yuck),
they have kept the Transformers Children away from this bike.
One more thing: The CB1100 MUST be faster than a 1983 GS1100.
If not it will be a failure similar to Kawasaki's ZR1100 Zephyr.

This bike is getting quite popular over here in Japan and I had the privilege of running one of these down the road...it is a nice bike! I have no plans on getting rid of my Bonnie but I would't mind parking this arch-enemy right next to her in my shed!

I guess the air cooling restricts the power available, but 87bhp  CB 1100 I think I would prefer a Z1000.

The Z1000 is a street fighter. That's like comparing a Bonnie to a Speed Triple. This bike weighs about the same as a Hinkley Bonnie AND it is at 87bhp. This bike has its retro element, is quick and fun as all he11 to ride. I think Triumph needs to open their eyes and see what is coming. This bike will run in direct competition to the modern classics and Honda is definitely on to something. I think the CB is going to really well stateside.

Maybe it'll do well over here Matt(I hope so), and while I also think the CB1100 is one great lookin' machine and welcome back the idea of the standard UJMs of old, I have to say I have my doubts about the sales success of this bike here in the States. It seems presently motorcycling here in the USA has gotten very "specialized", with most street riders looking for either Cruisers or the lastest greatest Sportbikes, though lately the "Adventure" bikes have finally seemed to catch on here after they've been so successful in Europe for so many years. Yep, I just don't know if there's enough people out there in America anymore who can appreciate those old Standards that could do everything fairly well but nothing the best. I also think the major reason the new Bonnevilles have been a sales success(if you want to consider the new Bonnies as "Standard" bikes, that is), is primarily because of the "Heritage Factor"...something of which I'm not sure translates to this new CB1100. I DO hope I'm wrong and will see many of these beautiful new CB1100s out there on the road in the next few years. (...yep, I'm SOOOOO freakin' tired of just seein' Harley Evo/Twin Cam after Harley Evo/Twin Cam around here in Arizona...HECK, I'm startin' to get jazzed when I see an old SHOVELHEAD around here, for chrissake!!!!)

I understand what you are saying Dwight and it will be interesting to see. I think there is a sub-culture when it comes to the roadster/cafe scene throughout certain areas and this CB should feed into that very well. I find it amazing the amount of choices I have seen in motorcycles both in Europe and here in Japan. Everything the stateside market has to offer as well as smaller displacement bikes where function is a major factor into what is built. I have been noticing businesses like Dime City Cycles and others that are bringing these old CBs back to life and doing things with them. Triumph was smart in recognizing this and I think Honda is catching on as well. Plus, like myself, there are a butt load of 40-something dudes out there that reminisce over bikes like these and that factor will draw them into the stealerships. Heck...I'm guilty of that. I heard about these Bonnies when I was in England about eight years ago and I immediately went on the hunt for that same reason! It definitely should be interesting and a little competition is never a bad thing.

I traded my 2000 Nighthawk (CB750) in on my America but I do still have a 1973 CB450 that I brought back to life a year ago after someone was sending it to the scrap yard. I sometimes miss the Nighthawk but it seemed to get taller as I aged and I had trouble with slow moving in parking lots, almost dropped it a few times. If I were a little bit taller I'd add the CB1100 to my list of bikes in the garage but I won't get rid of the America.
'06 America, Raask foot controls, the bike use to be Graphite and Silver, now its Red and Black.

Just saw this bike on the dealer floor. Wow she is prudy and brings back a lot of memories. I got to fondle her but no test rides as it was misting rain, dang it.
I saw very few things I would change. I thought the seat pushed you forward a bit but I believe that's was by design.The bike had the seat in the second picture above, Chrome fenders, but not the long gaudy look.Black mag wheels with polished aluminum trimmings,meh..
The pictures do not do her justice.
I'll get back to that dealer and take her for a spin.Will they sell, who knows but you can bet a bunch of old farts like me will be drooling over her in the showroom.

Well Todd, if ya REALLY wanna know, it would probably be the Italian-made 1957 Gilera across-the-frame 4-cylinder racer, and soon after the very similar MV Agusta 4-cylinder racers of the 1960s.
And while you might argue that neither of those were ever produced in any great numbers, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that Soichiro Honda just might have been inspired to create his masterpiece CB750(and of course the original "UJM") after watching guys like Giacomo Agostini, John Surtees and Mike Hailwood beat all comers on their MV Agustas during that decade.

I'm gonna out on ANOTHER limb here Todd and say you're bein' a mite facetious, right?!  My point(in case you missed it) was not that the OVERALL style of the Gilera/MV Agusta racer was or is like the standard style CB750 or this beautiful newer CB1100, but that the across-the-frame 4-cylinder engine concept that has become known far and wide as the "Universal Japanese Motorcycle" actually sprung from the Italian peninsula and not the Japanese Islands. (...and no slight at all was intended toward Japan Inc., who made and continue to make some of the best motorcycles in the world)
