Well, just went to our monthly ABATE meeting...had a report from the group that went to "meeting of the minds" said the D.O.T. guy said they were looking to begin "smart road technology" i.e. big brother in your car, by 2020...ask how this would effect motorcycles and the D.O.T. guys said that motorcycles were not part of the model ! which is to say our bikes would only be legal on secondary roads until the system included all of the street systems..and then...

They need to read the Constitution.(art1 sec9) You can't make a law retroactive. If a vehicle was legal when it was made, it's legal now. Otherwise, for example, '55 Chevys would have to have catalytic converters & airbags.

This is how it was explained to me at our ABATE meeting...you can still drive your Model-T or in my case , a DIVCO milk truck with its 6cyl flathead engine BUT if you can not maintain a specified minimum speed on a US Hwy it is illegal to operate ....the "smart" integration system is designed for auto's not bikes thus any vehicle without the technology would be prohibited on the designated roads.... the whole thing instantly reminded me of the RUSH song "Red Barchetta" and the motor laws the song talks about..... and as far as our Constitution , they don't seem to pay much attention to it if it is in the governments way !

Life will suck when the technology reaches rural roads. Driving, riding, et al is all about handling, albeit what little most operators do (or don't do). No more hole shots. We'll all be in the veritable Blues Brother's elevator on the way to the tax office. (no pun intended). Sísyphos.
