In the last week I've done a lot of riding around in northwest NJ. The number of trees blown down is remarkable. In some places whole stands of pine trees are in a pile like pick-up sticks.

We have seen a number of homes with property damage as well. Reports from Staten Island indicate there are still BOATS in the street.

IMHO the government - from the federal down to the state level - has failed the people of this area in a big way. Most folks are picking themselves up by their own bootstraps and with the help of family and friends.

I think we all learned a big lesson here and this is to BE PREPARED for disasters. And don't expect the nanny state to help you when you need it most. Wherever you live, be safe folks!
