That's a good call, as the Tigers probably the best in the league should be well rested. But as we've just seen don't let the Giants take it to game seven!

I'm thinking more like 5 games, Velander, Scherzer and Fister are going to be tough to score on. Cabrera won the triple crown. Fielder can hit the ball a mile. The only downside I see for Detroit is that long delay between games.

I was thinking this was gonna be about bikes. 1050, 800 & 800XC, EXP & EXP XC, and maybe another. Shoulda known it was gonna be about baseball seeing as how this is a motorcycle forum.

You mean Tigers in Sixth (gear) you'll find that in the technical pages.

At first I thought "Tigers in Six" was a referring to a timed event recorded by JR "Yota" Hunter, as he switched from a real motorcycle to a Tiger , which is a nice motorbike indeed. As the Milwaukee Braves no longer field a team I'l go for the team Prince Fielder is currently playing for. That guy can hit a ball a tonne. jh

Ahem, excuse me here John, BUT the game of Major League Baseball has bases measured at 90 FEET apart in a diamond configuration. The distance from home plate to the pitcher's mound rubber is 60 FEET 6 INCHES. And though the distance from home plate to the foul poles and the outfield fences can indeed vary from ballpark to ballpark, those TOO are ALWAYS measured in good ol' 'Merican measurements of FEET!
And so, WHY would you EVER say Prince Fielder(a good ol' 'Merican boy, btw) would, could or can hit a baseball using a term that is based on the METRIC system??? Ya see, we good ol' 'Mericans say things like: "THAT fella can hit that ol' tater a TON!"(that's 2,000 POUNDS...not 1,000 kilograms, aka a "tonne", btw)
You know John, if THIS sorta thing o' yours persists, along of course with ALL those superfluous letter "u"s o' yours that you throw into your spellin' around here, I MAY have NO choice but to request a copy of YOUR Birth Certificate JUST to see IF you're REALLY a good ol 'Merican boy from Wisconsin or NOT!!!

(...oh, and btw...I say it'll be the Giants in 7)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Good points all Mr. Argo. I've always who first thought up the 90' on a side? Why not 85' or 100'? A ninety foot diamond does make it the perfect game. Not to mention 4 balls/3 strikes, brilliant. The only stumble in my humble opinion was when the powers that be got all hopped up on steroids & stadium beer and legalized the designated hitter. If you pick up a bat , you should also pick up a fielders (Not Prince) glove. It cheapens the game, plays to wall street or marketing revenue.
For that reason, I tend to favour the National League teams

Couldn't agree with ya more on all counts, Mr. Halpop. (...well, OTHER than how a supposed good ol' 'Merican boy from Wisconsin spelled that verb up there which stated his preference for the National League, of course!)

Hey Paul,
When did you live in South Detroit. I went to WF Herman in the first half of the 80's.

In the middle 1800s they did a lot of different experiments. The longest throw on a slow hit ball from 3rd to first was able to beat most runners if the runners had to run more than 30 strides. The disadvantage for 3rd was to field the ball then throw to 1st at rate 3x faster than he can run. They decided on 30 strides. In those days a stride was a yard. So they did it in yards. 30 yards is 90 feet. As the base lines are measured from the center you lose a little in the equation making it a few inches less from center of 3rd to 1st at about 89 feet. Pitchers used to be able to pitch from anywhere within a 15' area but not from closer than 45'. They finally all agreed in 1850ish to draw the 15' radius mound with its front lip at 45 feet to the plate. And the intersection from plate to second and first to third would be the pitching Cleat or round bit of metal they now call the rubber. It seemed to work pretty well so they left it that way. The Balk on pitchers was a really contested thing when they made him complete his pitch. You may not know they didn't always call strikes either. Well somebody asked

Up 2 games to none, looks like we might need to reconsider. This thing might be over in 5 games as it seems the Giants can do nothing wrong at this point.

I was most impressed last night at the umpires call at home when Fielder slid in... I thought he was initially safe until I saw a couple replay views.

That is one big boy lumbering towards the catcher, yikes. Have to agree, some of the calls have been very, very close but the replays are spot on. Dangit we like to yell "kill the ump" when they blow the call. Or even if they dont blow the call

When Fielder was with the Brewers, and they were in town for a series, I passed by him in the hallway at the stadium. He was in street clothes and I can tell you for sure that he is not just some pudgy guy. That dude is friggin jacked! He looks so sloppy in a baseball uniform but he is ripped. I couldn't believe it.

Yep Dave. And how about the Giant's Sandoval. For a guy who also looks pudgy, that was one terrific leaping catch he made last night of Cabrera's line drive shot, wasn't it.

He made some good plays against my Cardinals too, and I was rather surprised. We only played the Giants in 6 games this season, and it's hard to see what a team is all about on a limited basis.

As usual, I could care less who wins, but I will pull for the league that makes the pitcher bat when his turn comes up. But golly gee - it's the World Series, and the last baseball we will see this year....AT LEAST MAKE A SERIES OUT OF IT, DETROIT! Extend this thing!

Not even a seance to evoke the spirits of Ty Cobb and Al Kaline helped those guys yesterday. Frigg, in four! Who started this thread anyway?

So utterly disappointed that the Tigers didn't even make a series out of it.
My theory is that there is only so much good juju to go around. The damn Lions used it all up with their come-from-behind win over Seattle. Frikken Lions.
