I would suggest a stone, way over a file to dress the edges of your fins. A fine grit, flat oilstone will remove very little metal, you work on 3-5 fins at time, keeping the bright raw aluminum square and uniform. The stone will plug up quick (as Aluminum is soft), so flush it clean with a little shot of spray solvent. I do my two Spdy s this way every thorough cleaning and get great results. When needed I deglaze my rotors with a rock as well, jack the bike up, hold a dry clean stone to the working portion of my rotor, spin the tire 3-4 full revolutions, doing both sides, front and back. This method will also highlight rotor defects and warpage if present.
