What bike have you got Ian?
I was lucky then, fitted my bobbed rear mudguard a week or so ago and managed to re-wire the back end without blowing anything up!

Most likely it is nothing to worry about. The ECM will throw an engine light after a short. It's just alerting you to the short (which you already know about but which is now fixed). If that's all it is then the engine light will go out after a fixed number of re-starts. I can't remember the exact number (maybe 10) and I can't refer to the service manual as I'm at work.

You might try disconnecting the hot side of the battery for a bit & reconnecting it...might re-set the ECM.

you could use tune ecu to comand the 'reset the adaptation'
that should clear the faults

For future reference the ECM will reset itself after 3 hot/cold cycles, then the light will go out if the fault is no longer there.

A hot/cold cycle is running the engine up to normal running temp and then letting it cool down again.

Got my America in Dec 12. Luv it! Out on Saturday when em light illuminated. Taking back to Triumph today for them to plug it in.
There's no apparent loss in performance so assuming no major problems is this a common fault with these bikes guys and gals?

No it's not common. The times it has occurred on this forum is usually related to some mod that hasn't been done quite right. Like an electrical short or incorrect resistance after AI solenoid removal. I haven't heard of it in combination with any major issue or fault. Let us know what fault the ECM reports when your dealer reads it.

BTW ... Congrats on your excellent choice of motorcycles and welcome to the forum ... Equally excellent for help, info and an eclectic mix of characters ... Generous friendly nut jobs.

An air box air temp sensor or barometric pressure sensor fault is not common. To have two go bad seems suspicious. Maybe there is a bad batch of sensors or (seems more likely) there is a fault with your wiring loom or ECM (ECU).
