I am at the point of wanting a bigger bike. But I just don't want something bigger I want a bagger like a street glide or a road glide custom. I wish triumph would offer something like this built around the thunderbird. I like my bike and cant and wont get rid of it. Just a random thought i want to put out there.

Originally they were suppose to to that with the Rocket III, but never have, so don't hold your breath that they'll do it with the Thunderbird either.

Enlighten me, I must be confused about what a bagger is. I thought that tuned down RIII classic, tourer or what ever was a bagger.

It is. Bikes don't need to have a big ugly fairing to be a bagger.

I'm still not in the know, what exactly is a bagger? Not a trick question.

I got tired of waiting for Triumph, I rode a few different bikes and bought a Yamaha Stratoliner Deluxe. It is an incredible riding bike, with endless power(with the added pipes, 100 HP/125 ft lbs torque at the wheel), terrific handling, and a wonderful ride(great comfort). The added plus was the deal I got, it was less than a standard T Bird ! I am very pleased, and I still have the Speedmaster to change things up.
The handling of the Strat is quite the surprise, its a blast !

So, I put a wind screen on my already bagged America I have a bagger? Or my brother's Rod King with bags and screen is a bagger? I guess I understand, I thought it would be more complicated, thanks.

I thought a cruiser with saddlebags was a bagger. The rest of the mods aren't necessary.

Well I guess what I imagined what a bagger was, is what a bagger is. So sometimes my America is a bagger and sometimes it's not.( Hepco Beckers and EasyBrackets )

Im thinking more along the lines of hard bags, full fairing with stereo, and cruise control to start.

Sounds like you're in the market for a Victory Cross Country. If you get the tour version you'll be living like a king.

Well, if we REALLY wanna talk about how(I feel) Triumph has "dragged their feet" in regard to "off-shoot" models they've (once again, I've felt) "missed the boat" bringing to market, we COULD I suppose add this non-existent T-Bird "Bagger" to a list which would include a "Honda Gold Wing/BMW LT-esque Rocket3 long-distance Touring rig, ALONG with that never to be made larger-displacement and FACTORY MADE Bonneville series models. So now that's THREE on MY list at present count! (...hey, but then again, it ONLY took about 4 or 5 years for HONDA to FINALLY learn that people were spending BIG bucks on Vetter Windjammer AFTER-MARKET fairings to put on their GS1000 models back in the late '70s and before they FINALLY brought to market the GOLD WING...and so MAYBE there IS still hope for Mr. Bloor's boys to figure THIS kinda thing out...eventually!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Lynn and I sat on a Rocket III Touring in Daytona Beach last year. For her, either of the prefires were more comfortable. What is paramount when it comes to a touring machine? Pillion comfort.

moe after doing the faring and the trunk and the long haul seat to my Rocket..wow what a difference..vicki is very happy ... but there are some things about the Rocket that are upsetting...many have had no trouble at all..with many bikes overs over 70,000 on them but other have had a troubles and most will tell you over at the rocket forum if buying a rocket get the extended warranty..and please don't get wrong love my bike me and the wife have a great time on it..but if Triumph don't step up soon I will be on another tour in the next year..and yes we have all ready test rode one..and have to say the 2013 Victory cross country tour..with the stoker kit and 116 over piston..oh by the way does not void the factory warranty..of 5 years..I hope triumph will come out with a real tour..but I am not holding my breath..

Dwight, it was 1975 I bought the GL1000 naked Gold Wing. What a powerful beast it was! It only took Honda a year to talk with Vetter than another year for distribution. Triumph appears to have decided touring is not for them as a factory operation. They are losing customers IMHO> when a company starts making a bagger looking like this with the power its comes out of the box with, Triumph is behind the power curve to be sure. victory bagger

Tsykaya makes hardbags and fairings that will fit a T-Bird. From what I can tell it should make it look very similiar to a HD Streetglide.
'06 TBA - Black, AI and Snorkel removed, K&N Drop In, Gutted Stock Pipes, 145/42, 2 turns out.

Every time I go on a trip I build my Thunderbird 1600 bagger. I add bags on the luggage rack/sissy bar and bags over ther rear fender. Voila... If I would have wanted a roadglide/streetglide/vicotrytour/Hondagoldwing/Yamahauler I would have bought one. But none of them would have been a TRIUMPH.

It's just not what they do. Triumph ony makes about 50000 bikes a year. There is no practical way, I'd think, to do a Vic/H-D/Far East bike and do it proper. Their resources can only go so far.

Finally read this thread. If Triumph made a T-Bird touring version (hard bags, shield, etc.) similar to the Rocket tourer, I'd buy it tomorrow. Don't know if I can give up my America, but my wife wants are larger more comfortable bike if I want her to ride more with me.

I love the stratoliner. Way cool retro styling! One of only two I would consider buying other than a Triumph. (other is a Victory). Ifn I had the money, I would buy a stripped down Strat! (One of the area dealers had a leftover 2010, no miles, for 10 K! Man, sometimes I hate all my resources going into my house!)

I too would love a Thunderbagger! something with more power (grunt grunt grunt) big honking hard bags, & a nice seat for 500 mile days. A couple extra lights & a removable windscreen. Triumph handling, so I can avoid the super slab, all under the price of an H-D. " Oh Genie!"
