Doing my first "non-dealer" oil change. I can't get the oil drain plug to budge (feels like someone "the dealer" welded it on. How hard do you have to crank it to get it off? I'm scared if I really crank on it I might strip it.

Don,
Assuming you are twisting the oil drain plug counter clockwise, you might have to give the wrench a bit of a shock to free it. I'd use a box wrench or 6 point socket and give it a light tap with a piece of wood. It will move.

Put it up on the lift so I could get some additional leverage with a piece of pipe over the rachet. It came off like a champ. I torqued it back to spec. Can't believe it was so damn hard to get off.

And this is just one of the reasons why I do my own work on my scoots. I can't believe that someone from a stealership would jam down that bolt that much...

I get internal oil filters from the Toyota dealership all the time that I can't budge. The caps are aluminum in an aluminum housing or a plastic cap. The TQ on those is 20 to 25 ft-lbs but the dealer tightens them up so much I break the spot welds in the filter cup trying to break them loose and in many cases can not so I don't find it hard at all to believe.
