When my son and I prepared for a four state trip last spring, we wanted an extra throttle and clutch cable on each bike, just in case, but didn't want them kinked by being in our overstuffed bags/luggage.
I threaded the spares right along side of the existing, and used very small zip ties to keep the ends next to the originals. This way, we not only didn't have to carry them in the bags, but IF we needed them, we only had to disconnect the ends of the broken cables, and connect the ends of the new ones. No unpacking the bags to find them, and no rode side repair of any time.
Since we've got back, and didn't need them, we've forgot all about them, and their still there. (JUST in case)
