It was taken in San Diego, at El Camino Cemetery. I was there doing some training, and saw this sitting out front, so I jumped on and had my boss take a picture.

Funny guys...
All I wanted to do what reach more people in different ways. Everyone is connected through facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, etc. Just trying to bring more to the Raid.
Between this reaction and the one on facebook, makes me wonder why I even bother to try new things.

Hmmm... How can I say this nicely.... Half these worldly experienced gentleman riders here are barely on the Internet let alone Facebook and Twitter.
You keep doing what your doing... Growing, changing, improving and making things better and well ride, support and enjoy it all, technology or not.

Thanks Z. I realize not everyone is on Twitter or Facebook but how is anyone going to know we are anywhere unless I let them know? That's all I was trying to do. One would think that the fact there is more options for communication, let alone more communication in general, about the Raid than previous years would be a positive thing.
I'll just keep plugging away...as they say, you can't please them all and there is a critic in every bunch. Reality is, I know the support and appreciate is there so that's good!
Only 5 more months! And I am very much looking forward to it!

Keep on keeping on Liane , I must publically agree (kinda'/maybe) with my brother Z, we all appreciate the effort you're putting into the rally, ralleye, ralley. Besides the good Friar tormented, hounded, needled me into the facebook thing. Between you and me that damn Friar could be a pain in the a$$ at times It's all good jh

Oh, I know...funny thing is, he couldn't torment me enough to get me signed up here! Yet, once he passed and there were questions and comments brought to my attention about the Raid, here I am! And I know the day I did, he looked down and said "of course you do it now"
Miss that man!
Maybe I should do a tribute page on the website for fallen Raid riders. Something to think about anyway.

You are wonderful, Liane and I appreciate your efforts. This Raid makes the world a better place and your contribution does not and will not go unnoticed with or without Twitter, Facebook and all the rest. And on another note... I dang near went out and insured my enduro today. Temps are above freezing, snow is melting and the sun is out. Good thing you live in Edmonchuck where the climate affords you more time to organize and such, rather than be out riding. Meanwhile, it will be my pleasure to let you know what it feels like to be on 2 wheels in 2013.

Hey guys, correct me if I am wrong, is this not a RAT event by the riders for the riders with support from our shops? The reason I ask is because there seems to be confusion about this being a RAT run event or a shop run event. In the 3 years I've been there, Paul England has run it each year and before that, someone else in a RAT club that wasn't part of a dealership.
Interested in your thoughts so I can figure out how to deal with something.
Thanks!

That's my sense of the deal Liane. My recollection is the Nelson rally originally started as a corporate effort, including the demo ride trailer. Triumph shifted it marketing focus, which was followed by individual dealerships in Ab, BC and WA picking up the tab, keeping the rally going via their organized RAT clubs. People stepping up and assuming responsibility for the event. It's been a popular weekend, organized by the people for the people. Now it's your turn and thank you for taking this ragtag group on. Like herding cats.
Mostly a bunch of old and new friends getting together. That's kinda' why I show up, besides harassing Z & a few others.
And that's about all I know, corrections invited, if not welcomed.

As far as i knew this was an Owner run RAT with no support from the factory, and those that wanted to contribute (dealers and the like) were welcome too but they did not run it or have much of a say in it. IMO

That was my understanding as well given the history that Paul England afforded me when we discussed me taking it over and especially when I was doing up the new website.
I just thought I would ask. Without stating who, one of the dealerships believed it was a shop run event, not a rider run event and made all these false claims about their past involvement. This came up because the early bird wave of sponsorship fees are due at the end of this month and when I sent out the reminder, one shop bit back. I left it with them stating our only concern is if they would like to continue to be a paid sponsor or not and to let me know when they make that decision so I can make adjustments if need be.
I was pre-warned so I was expecting it...just didn't think someone would think I was completely unaware of how Paul has run it for the past several years.
As always, this will remain a rider run event. I will continue to keep you guys in the loop and ask for suggestions. We are in this together, I am just steering the ship!
On another note, the newest issue of the national motorcycle magazine, Inside Motorcycles is out in stores - Chapters and Indigo. This year they are running their She Rides column by featuring strong women in the motorcycle community. They asked if I would be willing to help them kick it off. Everything I am involved in from forming M.O.D.E.L. Edmonton and B.O.G. Standards to volunteer writing to promote the CMDRA and as an emcee for a weekly charity bike night to taking over the Kootenay Rat Raid is mentioned! Pretty exciting for little me!

Ya know what, its nice to have a few sponsors and the like for those prizes and what have you, but frankly if they did not show up it would not make or break my going, i go for the people and the ride and the bikes, nothing to do with anyone else, uhm, oh ya and the beer..... :-)

I am getting that sentiment. It is nice to have prizes to give away but I don't think that is the reason we go. Everything else would still happen as it is all funded by our registration fees. The only thing we get donated are prizes from Triumph Canada. The shops pay a small fee that pay for a logo on the website, mention at the banquet, signage at the event and purchase extra prizes from Triumph Canada.
I just find it interesting that some shops just don't even blink an eye and send in a cheque where this one is being a bit of a pain. I hope it all sorts itself out. We appreciate the assistance from our shops in putting on this event...makes it seem like they care about their clientele.

I basically told them that our only concern is if they would like to remain as a paid sponsor as everyone else is. It has to be fair or I will have to remove their logo and any mention of them from the Raid. It's their decision and I hope they make the right one.
It does get noticed if a shop doesn't sponsor the event. Blackfoot in Calgary never has and a lot of Calgary folks noticed that. I have a pledge from them to do so this year so we shall see if they come through.
Thanks for the feedback. I really do appreciate it.

Ive been attending since 08 and though it started as a Triumph sponsored event (before I ever got there) it has been well known that the Island RATs continued the tradition with rider donations and prizes (maybe more) coming from local dealerships (primarily Canadian).
You are more patient than I am Liane. Id told them to stuff it a long time ago.
FWIW... Im with Mike, I go so I can see old friends and meet new ones, the riding and a place do have a brew in the evening. Talk some shop, some ****** and laugh. The do it all over again the next day.
If In town and if in need I will/have support the dealers that sponsor the event and if not then their loss.

I don't think it is patience Z...I am trying to be professional and not burn bridges while being berated and questioned through email.
It will all sort itself out. I think I am going to have a survey done up to get some questions answered from the people attending about the direction of the future raids.

Thanks guys! Good news, apparently the dealer that was having an issue with the sponsorship fee reconsidered and their cheque is in the mail. Let's hope that is the only issue I have with sponsors. I don't mind if they take a step back and withdraw sponsorship this year as it is their choice every year, but I do mind when they come at me with a berating attitude. Now...for those of you not aware, I somehow missed summer. We've had about 19 feet of snow in 36 hours and it is still coming. At this rate, I might get my bike off my street just in time for the Raid!

I hear you...at some point the snow has to stop. It was looking like I would get off my street soon then the 19 feet of snow happened. My neighbour had even chipped out a drain path to help me get out sooner...
