Curiousity has set in..Every year we have several classes of bikes for the show/shine.I cannot recall any Thunderbirds/Rockets recieving any awards..it seems as though this best in the Kootnays' as well as cruiser awards have been Americas' and speedmasters.Yes,I rode a Rocket and yes,I am complaining somewhat...but has my memory failed me??At least those Goldwingers last year failed to to get best bike in the parking lot..as they continually told me they were!!!
life is good..I am retired..sold my America in 2008,bought a Rocket and sold that in 3/2013 and now own a new Triumph Bonneville T-100

Hey Bob, I cannot comment on how things were decided in previous years. I am aware that a Daytona, a couple Bonneville T100s and an Amnerica picked up awards last year...no Speedmasters...not even mine. With that said, the categories for awards this year are: Best Overall - from any type Best Modern Classic - Bonneville, Thruxton, Scrambler, old Thunderbird Best Modern Cruiser - Speedmaster, America, new Thundersbird, Rocket III Best Sport/Sport Tour - Sprint, Speed Triple, Daytona, etc. Best Dual - Tiger Furthest Traveled - self explained Oldest Triumph - self explained Who is judging? That will be confirmed at the Raid and I have an idea to make it fair and unbiased if the people I have in mind are willing to do so. As this is my first year in the driver's seat, suggestions are always welcome for years going forward. Things are pretty much set for 2013 but I am very open to new ideas for 2014. I am the type of person who will listen to things carefully and will ask a few trusted sources on both sides of the border their opinions and go forward from there. www.kootenayratraid.com

My mistake Marty...I thought Nanci had an America, not a Speedmaster. OK, so correction...1 Speedmaster won and the Americas also got shut out. BTW - my neighbour is awesome! Delivered a thank you card with a gift card for holding on to the Raid mail and looking it up to realize it was supposed to go to me!

I hear you Marty! Good neighbours seem to be hard to come by these days. I am grateful to live in a wonderful neighbourhood!
Good news peeps! The 2013 menu has been set! Without going in to all the details, it will include these three mains:
1. Roasted Beef - figured I would be shot if that was not on the menu 2. Spinach & Ricotta Cheese Cannelloni - always have to have a vegetarian option at these things 3. Tropical Ham with Honey and Pineapple Glaze - which they allowed me to take from a separate menu!
YUMMY!

Hey Freedom, Do you take Hwy 2 and 95 through Bonners Ferry? Then connect to Creston and Salmo (3) when you go to Nelson? I might be leaving from Alberton, MT, I thought I might try and catch up with you. Just a thought.

I have quite the route planned for me since I have to be there early. I'm taking a full week off and leaving Edmonton to hang out in Jasper, AB for the night. I'll ride the oh so scenic and stunning Icefields Parkway (Hwy 93) to Radium. I think Friar made it up here at one point to ride the Icefields parkway...or we had talked about it. I sure hope he did and if not, I will ride it for him. Will likely take me all day because I love to take pictures and I will be alone so I can! From Radium, BC I will make my way to Nelson with a couple stops I need to make to pick up some things.
Loving that I will be in a couple days early. I'll get some details finalized on the first day I am there as one of my fellow Boggers gets in from the Island a day early. He and I will tear up the roads on the Thursday morning before everyone starts to arrive.
The rest of my Boggers will be taking a semi-scenic route the first day from Edmonton down to Rocky Mountain House, to the David Thompson Highway which intersects with the halfway point of the Icefields Parkway and end up in Radium for the night. I am sure they will pop in to Fort Steele the next day on their way to Nelson and also meet up with our Calgary counterparts in Creston so they can bomb down 3A together.
Man I just want it to be July already!
Good news though...our bike show is this weekend and I am working in the Triumph booth. A new Triumph Canada guy is here this year so I am sure he and I will have lots to talk about regarding the Raid. Here's hoping I make a good impression so we get a decent about of SWAG!

They are leaving for Nelson on July 17, will over night in Radium and arrive in Nelson on the 18th. We are all heading back together on the 21st, will over night in Radium and home on the 22nd.
What are the plans for you and Nanci? BTW, she is on the BOG email list so she will get a copy of the plans when they are finalized.

It is a great route Z, T. Falls 40 miles west down the Clark Fork river valley to the breaching of glacial lake Missoula (Mizzoula/Miss Zoola), not one breaching, but maybe 30+ times . Then north up the Bull River to Bull lake and dropping into the Kootenay river valley by Troy. Safely crossing the international border (yes sir, no ma'am) to Creston, BC either go North along the reservoir to the ferry or cut across the pass. Travellers recognize Nelson by the preponderance of girls in gauze prairie skirts and guys in dreadlocks, or is it the other way around?

Working the bike show all weekend paid off. Talked to new and old Triumph folks who have either never been to the Raid or haven't been in Yeats. Most have emailed already that they have booked rooms and registrations are on the way. That feels good! Not to forget I just spent three days chatting with a new Triumph Canada rep! Hope he comes through!

Started the bike today when I got home from work. Took a while since the float bowls were empty but once the fuel flowed she fired right up. I actually looked out at the rain and was thinking "that doesn't look so bad, I could take a spin"... but I didn't. Sat on her while she was idling and my mind immediately went to BC3 (Creston to Salmo) . *Sigh*

I haven't seen my bike since September. I didn't store it in my livingroom this year as a friend of mine offered free HEATED storage in a building he owns. NICE!!! It does however feel weird not to be able to see her regularly. But hey, the days are getting longer and there's good times ahead. It's only a matter of time and patience.

Hey Keith, I'll be at your place on the 17th and probably the week before with my family (somewhere between July 6-11), let me know if those dates will work with you. I'm working out the details. I'll keep you posted.
