Not sure I will go again...Integrity of the Non-Triumph Rat(?)Raid is contaminated...Gold Wings,Ducatis,Kawisakis',Harleys have over taken the parking lot..Got tired of defending my choice to purchase a Triumph(didnt know a gold wing would run over 150mph on the highway, passing everthing Triumph builds!)And to top it off,They gave awards to non-riders(cagers)and trailered bikes...Going to devote my money and time to a "Riders" Association of Triumphs.A current solution seems to be to block the street and have more parking..You'all have a good time..wont miss me and I wont miss you!
life is good..I am retired..sold my America in 2008,bought a Rocket and sold that in 3/2013 and now own a new Triumph Bonneville T-100

Although i agree with the other bike stuff, and i was really peeved off to see nice triumphs parking in the street becasue of other bikes that were not triumphs, i think not going is worse, you can make a statment or try to effect change if your there, if your not then your no better then the people who won't change it, i for one will be talking to Leanne, who is here in edmonton and will be running the next show she is part of the BOG riders and is aware of our concerns. + Stll allot of good Triumph folk there to mingle with.....

Just spoke with Liane, she will in fact be making some changes to the parking issue with non triumph bikes, we don't however want to discourage non triumph riders from comming though, many do own triumphs and chose to ride a different bike for whatever reason, others travel up with triumph riders for a nice ride and weekend, heck who wouldn't! Apparenly she will be working on getting that street blocked of for all other bikes so that people and bikes remain safe. Oh ya and as for the trailered bikes, i don't know of one trailered bike that won anything, they were all ridden there, most of the winners were from edmonton with thei sick looking 100's and all of them were ridden to nelson with one exception, the young lady who crashed on the way up, but she was riding and did try to get there in one piece. Liane asks that if anyone has questions or concerns to e-mail her at liane@kootenayratraid.com so show up and support this event!

As Mike already said, my intention is to fix the parking issues and make the lot Triumph priority parking. I will work hard to get safe parking for our non-Triumph riding friends. It's my first year running this and I have listened to many concerns already with parking being the most popular.
Now, as for who won what award, the run down was like this:
Best sport - was a Daytona from SK and was ridden to the Raid Best cruiser - was a Speedmater from AB and was ridden to the Raid Best Standard - was a custom cafe racer style Bonneville from AB and was ridden to the Raid Best overall - was a custom cafe racer Bonneville from AB, the Gulf bike, and was ridden to the Raid Farthest ride to the Raid - was Sarah from Toronto and she rode over 20,000km to the Raid Best Rat Bike - since there are no true rat bikes, Jen won for crashing on the 1A on our way to the Raid, throwing her bike in the back of a rented Dodge Caravan Stow and Go and coming anyway despite breaking her wrist and having a mild concussion. It was decided she deserved recognition for her dedication to the Raid as it was also her first and very far from her last. She will be riding next year.
I sincerely hope that clarifies that misconception that trailored bikes and non-riders were awarded.
Things are going to be different next year. It will be fresh, fun and new without taking away from some traditions. First new thing...I'm in the final stages of redesigning the new website which will be launched as soon as it's done.
I can't make anyone come but you will miss out on some cool things if you don't. I'm excited to be taking this on and again, to all who have offered to help and have provided suggestions, brought up concerns and feel positive about the new direction, thank you all. Your support is what will make this event even better!
I can be reached at liane@kootenayratraid.com.
Cheers all!
Any day on my bike is the best day ever! That would be my custom painted 2007 Speedmaster or my 2002 Daytona 955i also known as my salt racing bike!

Bob... If you dont show you will be missed. Maybe not by all but Karen and I sure will miss seeing you there. Your an adult and make your own choices though. Plenty of time to mull it over and change your mind. Liane... It's about time you got on this little forum we call home. Welcome and I personally look forward to the Nelson Raid under your leadership. To anyone else from here on... I'm going to politely ask that this thread not turn into a flame war on last years raid. Liane wants your feedback so email her your thoughts and suggestions. I for one know she shares the exact same concerns. How? I stood in line with her and listened to her voice some opinions. I almost turned around to hug her for saying what was on her mind but I had a beverage or food in hand and I have priorities I made new friends last year, saw old friends, rode some amazing roads, shared some great memories and saw some great bikes again. Those are the things that keep me coming back again and again. See you there

Thanks Z. Honestly, after all the "polite" urging from John, I'm not sure why it took me so long. He is likely up there looking down saying "it's about ****** time!"
I totally agree about not turning this into a flame war from last year. As we say goodbye to the first decade of Kootenay Raids, I reflect and appreciate everything each person has done to keep this event going. Now it's my turn and all I ask is for a chance to change what needs to be changed, and keep what needs to be kept. I can't guarantee this year will have it all as it is my first one and I will learn from it and will correct for the next year. I will most definitely have the best interest of the Triumph riders at heart. Know that you have one of the most brand loyal and biggest Triumph advocates at the top of this event.
Z has gotten to know a bit about me as I wrote my speech in memory of John. He knows my character is ensuring I get things right and make people proud. Freedom ensured me that my tribute to Friar was incredibly appropriate and very well done. I intend to approach my responsibility to all of you in the same fashion with this Raid.
I'm kind of excited! The new website is coming along and I hope to have it up soon!

Bob... I too will miss you not being there if you don't make it up again for 2013. Old and new friends alike are what makes this event special for me and you are a big part of that. Liane... Fancy meeting you here! Welcome to the forum and might I also take this opportunity to thank you for taking the Raid by the horns. Just when we thought things were pretty good, it got better!! Hey everyone... 2013 promises to be the best Raid yet. I personally am working with the weather Gods around here to ensure we don't have to get wet before, during or after the event so you can put that little problem to rest. Otherwise it would be wonderful if even more ba.com members could make it up 'cause if there's one thing I like to do (well, two things) it's meet new people and show off this little corner of paradise.

Thank you for the kind welcome Keith! And thanks for the email. Was so nice to hear from you!
I appreciate your efforts in dealing with the weather out there. That officially removes one thing from my plate! lol And you are most welcome for me piling more on my plate by taking on the Raid! Apparently this is what I do and I am loving it. I have two pages left on the new website then up it goes! It promises to be clean, organized and easy to use. If not, then we blame my brain! It's also my first from scratch website so I'm a bit nervous!
BTW - this whole "complete newb" tag under my handle is bugging me! Had I listened to John years ago, I would be well past that title! Newb...lol...not the most accurate description of me!

Complete newb... yeah, right! If John were around he'd make that right in a heartbeat!! As a seasoned rider and participant/supporter of the Kootenay RAT Raid your status ranks well above "newb" in my books. Liane, your presence here and input is much appreciated. Let's "rock" this ol' world and wake up the Kootenays like never before!

"über smart arse" - LOL - Thanks Z...and yes that one would be fitting! Today is an exciting day for me. I achieved some milestones that allows me to move forward with the organization of this great event! 1. Bank account is set up and ready to go - Kootenay Rat Raid is officially able to collect registration and sponsor fees 2. Registration form is done and available for download 3. Most important - the new Raid website is up and running! I did my best to improve on it, keep it clean and easy to navigate. www.kootenayratraid.comNow I get to attack, I mean approach the sponsors with hat in hand and wait for all you fine folks to send in some registrations!

Those compliments are nothing more than trying to curry political favour in a failed attempt to influence door prize random drawings at the banquet.
Besides, the usual suspects I sit with have all won their share of custom leather jackets, weekends in Jasper, tyres, inland waterway cruises, etc. I did win a tootsie roll in 2002, maybe it was 2003? Heck, a couple years ago the good Friar won so much stuff, he was lucky I had my truck there to haul it all back to Montana.

Marty, you and Nanci are more than welcome to come to a BOG Standards pint night. First Monday of every month in the private room at Hudson's Downtown. you could bring me your cheque and catch up with a bunch of friends... I am not setting up Paypal this year. I'm working on finding the best way possible for online payment. I still require the registration form so I am also trying to find a way to tie that in as well. Maybe next year there will be online payments. And John, thanks for the tip! . He almost had me!

Once in a while an event comes along that just sort of sticks to your ribs. This is one of them. My only wish is that it was a day longer so we could get more socializing in.

Yes, because there is absolutely no socializing going on Thursday, Friday or Saturday Keith! Adding a day is something we could poll the participants about to see if it is worth it. For me, I will be out there early from now on anyway so yay for me with extra time to ride the roads before chaos begins!
