The bike is almost 11 years old, it's about time for a rebirth

Switch it up man!

It shouldn't take more than a couple hours.

I agree and I will take that black tank off your hands in an effort to help out; you shouldn't have to go through this kind of crisis and I will extend the hand in an attempt to help you out. Let me know when you are ready to send it and I will give you an address to send to it...it will be a MO address to boot!!...!!...

These are just starter pieces, they need to be stripped redesigned and repainted before they get bolted on. My goal is to have a completely different second bike while still only owning one, something I can swap back and forth.

Yeah, and this will give you a chance to get rid of that nasty ole rock chip on your front fender you got on our first ARK rally. (Gawd, I did hate to see a grown man cry)

Chrome all those pieces. I know you like 'em shiny. So you might as well just be blinding.

Do it!!!!!!! I'm doing the exact same thing to mine. Picked up a dented tank and rear fender...gonna do some metal trimming and loose the front fender for an old school look for those more rebellious types of days

That blue tank, with black fenders, would look REAL good, in my opinion.

(But, that's close to what someone said right before I painted that red one gold)

(No one said ****** when I painted that "Sand textured orange" one blue!)

Whatever you do, it's easy (and nice) to switch back and forth.

I've got a nice, spare tank I bought two years ago. Was thinking about doing a custom paint job on it, to make my America more "distinctive". Never have got around to it. Truth is, the stock black with red swirls is so darn nice, I don't think about changin it much. This is the only bike I've ever had that I didn't want to change. It's great the way it came!

The front fender is a darker blue than the tank, rear fender and side cover are black. It would look pretty goofy if I just threw it all on there as is

Ya know Dave, when Brent made that comment about chroming everything, it reminded me of somethin' I've thought for a long time might look very cool on our bikes...Chroming the tank and then painting over certain parts of it, kinda like what how the late '30s Speed Twin looked here...

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

This link to older paint schemes might offer some ideas.

Ok even though I'm not a huge fan of chrome, I gotta admit those are, WOW! impressive, a work of art, cool, sweet awesome, all that and a bag of chips,...... anything in the way of a good complement except any remark on the badass, tough, ect. side of the house.

i think having stuff to change it up is a great idea, i have two corbins, one solo the other gunfighter, i have painted dart screen and summer screen, different risers, bags and no bags etc etc, it is nice to be able to play with it now and again. Front fender off is something i have considered, i like the looks of our bikes with no front fender.

WELL, PAINT THE FENDER BLACK! I CAN'T HOLD YER HAND HERE DUUDE!

(In the pic., I thought it was black)

I've really enjoyed havin' my fenders black. I can switch between the green, gold, or blue tanks and have a different bike personality in 15 min.

Those color on chrome tanks ARE KILLER!

Oh,
And you say "Goofy" like it's a bad thing!?

How about StL Cardinals red with white rally stripe(s). Completely different and would still look good with all the chrome.

I like the painted chrome tank. Anyone know how you would get the paint to adhere to the chrome?

I imagine judicious masking and sandblasting would help where the paint is to go. It does look great, but if the paint doesn't stick, a worthless endeavor for sure.
