I occasionally lurk on other sites and have observed how things get out of hand easily when politics (especially during the silly season) are openly discussed. People who would otherwise be good friends and drinking buds go off kilter at each other's throats on-line and it can get downright nasty when there isn't a moderator to calm things down a notch. This gets even worse when the mod/site "owner" is bent one way politically so that he allows those with his own views to stomp on others who are at the other end of the spectrum, yet bans or joins in on the stomping when the other guy has made a good point or two. Many on other sites don't even get involved with the discussions.
I support the decision to keep politics out of this forum, as it just gets nasty quick otherwise.
