Hopefully the weather will be good. I might be tempted to head on up and finally venture back out onto Whidby Island. I've never actually gone into town during the event.
So, is anyone else thinking of going ?

Steve

Four years ago I had a GF in the Mount Vernon area. Sh'es a very fine person, although things didn't pan out long term. I still have a house key here somewhere. Beautiful place in the country.

Well, I am on call this weekend, but my boss said he would take the phone 'til I got home. Unless, something big happens, I plan to ride up Sunday morning. Figure I should be there around noon, hopefully sooner.

Looks like Bob's link didn't work. Here it is, if anyone is interested: $7 breakfast 6-10 AM at Sound Harley to benefit local Kimanis clubs

Weather is looking promising. I've never been into Anacortes or to an event with so many bikes in one place, so not sure the protocol or where/how to meet up. I'll probably get there late morning, as it will be a ride from Kent. I'm probably going to take Hwy 99 up and ride the ferry over (haven't done that since my accident 4.5 years ago). I've already read warnings about LE and their radar guns, so be careful.

Bob, do we park our bikes there or someplace else. Having never been to an event with so many bikes, I'm not sure what the deal is on parking.

I think I still have your number on my cellphone.

Steve - you can park your bike where ever. Last year, we found a side street in the residential area and parked them safely. We were only two blocks from all the action.
The weather is suppose to be nice all weekend.
It would be great to see everyone again.

Planning on heading up also - though I may actually head up on Saturday instead - looks like I'll have to work over the weekend at some point - I'll miss all the bikes obviously if I head up on Saturday but will get the nice Whidbey ride either way.
If I'm there Sunday I'll meander over to Commercial and 6th!

I'm getting psyched up. Already lubed the chain and will give her a good bath either tomorrow or Saturday. While I'm more acceptable of slab, I'll probably take the slower, more scenic route up on 99 and then catch the ferry over and on up to Anacortes. I'm going to shoot to be there by noon.

Come on Sunday !!!

For those of you coming from south of Seattle, be forewarned. Riding through Seattle could be a mess this weekend, especially with the Mariners game on Sunday.

Seattle area braces for weekend road closures

What is a good alternate route around Seattle. I was just going to bomb up I-5, and take the Mukilteo (sp?) Ferry.

I've never liked I-5 in Seattle for the bike. Road surface is rough and I seem to recall some potholes and other obstacles.

If you want to go all slab, take I-405 north around the east side. You can pick up I-5 at the top and get to ferry from there (I don't konw the exit).

I'm going to do Hwy 99 going up. Yeah, it will be a little slower, but it's more scenic to get to Mukilteo ferry. And the Mariners traffic shouldn't be too bad in the morning.

On the way back down, I'll probably take I-5 south to I-405. You can then pick up I-5 at the end of 405 or grab Hwy 167 to Hwy 512 and go that way and avoid Tacoma.

If you want when coming up, take Hwy 512 to Hwy 167 before you hit Tacoma and then get I-405 north.

Assuming the clouds go away.

I saw this on the WSDOT website:

Muk/Clin - Annual Oyster Run Sunday Sept 23 Expect Heavy Motorcycle Traffic
Drivers can expect heavy motorcycle traffic at Mukilteo from 7-11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 23. Motorcyclists will be loaded on a first-come, first-served basis and should queue with vehicles. Clinton will experience heavy motorcycle traffic from 2-5 p.m. Sunday. A limited number of motorcycles will be loaded on each sailing.

It's been a while since I've ridden the ferries, but don't motorcycles just ride up, around the line of cars, to the toll booth and pay ?

Not when there are 400 bikes waiting for each ferry.

Its the ONE day you are not special on two wheels.

Brent... if there is traffic take 405 around. You can catch it in Tukwila and itll dump you back on I5 in Lynwood (you miss all of downtown).

If you stay on I5 try and take the carpool/express lane if open.

Had a great ride out to Anacortes for the Oyster Run. Unfortunately, I didn't get there in time to meet up at the corner of Commercial & 6th. I actually arrived in Anacortes at 12:40, but it took another 30 minutes before I was parked.

Here's a shot on the Mukilteo ferry over to Whidby Island. Sorry, my cell phone camera is old and doesn't take the best pics ! I was parked back at the end of the rows of Harleys in front of me. Needless to say, once we arrived on Whidby Island, I was looking out for all kinds of road debris following these people.

The downtown Anacortes area was closed off to all but motorcycles. I wasn't sure where to park but just followed the people in front. It seemed that a lot of people were taking pictures of the Triumph as I rolled in, I'm glad I gave her a bath yesterday.

A couple of other guys were leaving and I just happened to be there at the time, so I rolled right in, smack in the middle of the road in downtown Anacortes. How cool was that!! Even had soe people wander by and stop to inspect the America !

Obviously I missed meeting up with Z, Karen, Bob and whomever else. SO I just wandered around, debated if I wanted to join the Bandidos or some other clubs who had tents setup and recruiting. There were a few lovely young ladies/models wandering around and posing. Nice eye candy.

They also had some classic bikes on display, including an Ariel Square 4 with a single carb. They had a couple of old Triumphs too.

I've never been in one place with so many bikes. It was awesome, even if traffic was a PITS. We were very fortunate with the weather, it was perfect !

A little sound of what it was like

The only letdown was upon leaving. Seemed I had a dead battery. The bike started fine when leaving, but after I tried to start her after a quick stop for fuel, all I got was the dreaded "brrrrrrrap". I literally had to run down Z & Karen for some help. It seems my negative terminal wiring was a little loose. I know I had checked them in April/May and had not ridden her all summer. So it was a learning experience for me. Need to check those terminals monthly. We tried a couple of different things to get her fired up, but we finally resorted to using Z's friend Chris and his big ol'GoldWing with some jumper cables. That did the trick. Put the bike back together, thanked Z, Chris & Karen for their help and sent them on their way. Then started the slow crawl out of Anacortes and on I-5/405 South to get home.

All in all a great day, even with the battery issue.

I don't know John. I think it will be hard to beat the story of a 52 year old guy, weighing 230 lbs, wearing his heavy Triumph leather jacket, running down the main drag yelling out, "Z!!!", "Karen!!". They would slow down and just as I got near, traffic would pick up and they would speed away. I'm sure all the other bikers were thinking, "WTH is wrong with that nut case?".

I ended up getting there with a friend after going up 101 through the Olympics & Cape Flatery, Vancouver Island, San Juan Island, and Orcus Island (camping all the way). Only saw 3 other Triumphs(?)... Obviouosly lots of bikes, but they sure were noisy! Must be a "Harley Thing".

I'm speeding because I have to get there before I forget where I was going.
