Both my bike and my car get about 5-10% fewer miles on the E-10 stuff. Considering it's about 3% cheaper than the straight gas that doesn't seem like a very good deal. As for e-85, how much fuel is used in growing the corn, distilling the alcohol and then transporting it? It's like the "green" electric cars that run off electricity produced with fossil fuel.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
