Ever since I Was 12, and put on my first pair of Levi's Shrink-to-Fit Rigid 501's, that's all I have ever worn. They were hand-me-downs, already faded, and immediately my favorite pants. I get a new pair every year or so, but they're not easy to find these days, even in one of the largest cities in the world today..... So, as a Birthday gift, I get another pair this year. Original. As advertised. Unwashed, Rigid, Shrink-to-Fit. Made in Egypt. My last new pair was made in Mexico. These feel like they're about half the weight they ought to be, unwashed. The Red Tab on the back right pocket doesn't even say "Levi's". Just a blank Red Tab, with the copyright logo, but no word Levi's on the tag at all. Maybe they should be ashamed to call them Levi's anymore! I don't know what gives. Just like hardware. Show me where I can go buy real steel fasteners and hardware, not the cheapo Made in China crap you can't seem to steer clear of these days. Where do I have to look to find real Levi's? The "Made and Crafted" line may not even be what I'm looking for, as a lot of them seem to already have the pre-made holes in strategic places....ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!? $200 a pair? What's this world coming to? I'll wear other jeans, but prefer the long, six-button fly style, and, would prefer a heavy-weight (13 oz.?) denim. Duluth makes nothing button-fly that I'm aware of, nor does Lee Jeans, or Wrangler . I like the ArborWear jeans in the Stich catalogue, but no, not button-fly. And I don't need any of these "Sits below the waste" 4-button (if you're lucky) Skinny Jeans. The Levi's 517 Boot Jean is a 13 oz. denim - tough as nails, too, but, zipper fly, and, always a bit tight in the thigh on me. I did buy a pair of Triumph Kevlar button-fly jeans from British-USA recently, off the clearance rack...Made in China, but they fit okay, albeit too hot to wear around here until Winter time.....but I'm still looking' for alternatives. Signed, Zipper-Phobic

We've had this discussion before. No Levis are made in the USA anymore, mexico, Asia etc.. I too have worn 501s since I was a very young kid. 501s are all I've ever worn. I quit buying the shrink to fit about ten years ago, started buying the preshrunk, they come in dark, medium and light blue. I buy the dark. The old school 501s are still available here in KC at a couple of farm and grain stores. You might call around your city to similar stores. I remember back in the late 70s reading that in NYC and SF, Levi Corp had stores that would scan your body and a computer would print out a pattern specific to your body. Then they would sew the 501s. They had tubs for soaking the jeans with you in them, then dry them. $100 a shot, lots of money now, a whole lot of money back then.

I don't know maybe we should have listen to that man?
We would all be paying $200 for a pair of 501s. Besides he turned out to be a little paranoid, Bill and Hill owe him everything.

I wear Carhartt jeans they are very tough but I dont think the jeans are American made anymore. But then again I ride a Britsh bike made in Korea or somewhere. I think wranglers are american made I have a pair or two of them too. All I know is I ripped through a pair of them before they faded LOL. But a nice bang for the buck for dress jeans.

Bigbill, I was referring to Levis corp, they are a huge entity in SF,Ca. I remember when they went off-shore with production, it was a big deal because they were/are a huge American icon. No big deal to me, but those jeans you linked to are made by inmates in an Oregon prison, hence Prison Blues branding.

Now we're talkin'!
Heavy weight denim at a reasonable price (by today's standards).
I buy my RedWing boots at a small local Supply company that also carries Pendleton (wool) shirts, and Tellason denim jeans, made here in the USA, BUT, they're $200 a pair. And button fly. BUT, they're $200 a pair....AND, they say you're NEVER SUPPOSED TO WASH THEM, or they might SHRINK, or FADE.

I found out most red wings are not american made.

I never understood why anyone would like a button fly, when you really have to pee it takes too long to unbutton! I buy what ever kind fits me best that I can find,Wrangles usually but I have several others. Levis never seem to fit me right.

Perot went all the way to the election. He pulled a lot of votes away from Clinton and even a few from Poppy Bush.
I don't get button flies, either. I got a pair as a gift from my girlfriend at the time and had to 'spill' a can of paint on them to make them go away.

I really miss the days when Levi's were made of heavy stuff and there was only the waist size. The legs were all the same length and you rolled them up to fit. AND they were less than 6 bucks!

Obviously you've NEVER been in a frantic rush to zip them up, and have an "Oh-oh" moment! (Followed by screaming "F#################%@", loud enough to be heard miles away) You'll NEVER wear a zippered pant again!

I tell people they only cost $6 when I was young, they call me a liar. Tell them what a Corvette once cost, they tell me I'm crazy. Can't tell you what they call me when I tell them , you could buy a bag of burgers for a dollar.

I wear Lucky Brand jeans - they have a line that is specifically made in America, too. I believe I've also seen some button flys. While many of their jeans are "pre-distressed" they do have some plain dark denim. Check these out: LuckyJeans-American-Made For riding, I prefer armored pants.

I was always a Levis zippered 505 kind o' guy, as they always seemed to fit me better than any other brand and style, BUT just recently I bought a couple o' pair of Kirkland brand bluejeans at Costco, and if I didn't know any better I'd SWEAR they were "real" Levi 505s! AND, at ONLY 14 bucks a pair, I think I'm gonna stick with these from now on.
(...of course the only problem with that is that Costco only occasionally has this kinda stuff, and so it's usually a hit-or-miss proposition)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Button fly jeans, after 3 or 4 washings are easier and quicker to get out of than zipper flys, much like a western shirt. This is important info for dating bachelors where time is of the essence, if you get my drift. Granted, after a six pack they can start to be difficult to button up without missing a button or two, but by then who cares.

Actually, in the 70s I had a pair of shorts with no button or snap at the top and a big ring on the zipper. Well the very tip got caught in the zipper enough to bleed and later scar. I mean the very tip too! So bad I had to call someone over to help me get it back out of the zipper. Still can't see why anyone would want a button fly.

They can post anything the want for MSRP. They actually cost about $50 or less in the stores I shop in. But more importantly, skinny jeans, really?!
Let me help you out here.

Lucky's "Slim" ain't the same thing by a long shot man. And they do make more "husky" styles.

I do not know a lot about it as have never been a guest in the "Joint" but Prison Blues are made in good old liberal Oregon, and as I understand, the convicts get a little of the money and the rest goes to victim restitution and child support. All I'm actually sure about, is they are decent quality jeans at a fair price.

Privatized prisons are a scary scenario, imagine that somebody loses money for granting a parole, good behavior, who cares, we are losing money letting you out, scary! Barbara B. is heavily invested as I have learned.
