Back in the 80's, 501 jeans were the thing. It's all I wore back in college. After some wear, you could unbutton them in a hurry. Loved the old 501 Blues commercials.
Now Diamond Gusset and LL Bean are the brand of choice.
Didn't buy into the hype, you can keep the change.

7 For All Mankind jeans are button fly and made in the U.S. 7'sDo they cost more? Absolutely. Do you get what you pay for? Without a doubt. I have some that are older than I can remember and still look great. Lucky Brand jeans are also made is the U.S.A., but there are some out there made in other countries, usually found at places like Costco or Sams and the like... Lucky'sSame situation as the 7's, I own many pair of Lucky jeans and they hold up incredibly well and look great. To be fair, I wear Old Navy jeans for riding, or some other lesser brand. At what my nice jeans cost it's not worth it to wear them on the bike and risk ruining them.
Always remember to be yourself. Unless you suck. Then pretend to be someone else.

501s were always the standard, I wore them in the late '60s and the '70s. Once they were broken in really well the buttons would open easily, as has been mentioned.
Could open too easily sometimes, and when going commando could be a little at the wrong time.

I never understood why anyone would like a button fly, when you really have to pee it takes too long to unbutton! I buy what ever kind fits me best that I can find,Wrangles usually but I have several others. Levis never seem to fit me right.
Why? I just like the sound the buttons make when buttoning or unbuttoning my jeans.

start with the bottom button and "button - up" faster than a zipper and you wont get "yourself" caught in a zipper...

I'm gonna out myself here. I'm a tight a$$ when it comes to clothes. Mostly it's because I just don't care much about them, as long as I'm warm, covered and safe. I can count on two hands the number of brand-new jean pants I have bought in my LIFE, and those the less than $20 pair. Since I was a kid, my Mom and later my wife, has bought all my jeans from yard sales. Usually a dollar or two. Now that I've confessed, however, I do have a small bluejeans story. When I was a freshman in high school, I got a pair of jeans for Xmas. They were nice enough, I guess, but I remember that although they were obviously jean material, they were about half the thickness of regular jeans, kind of a slight polyestor feel, although you couldn't tell it by looking. I swear to God, I owned and wore those jeans regularly for the NEXT 25 YEARS! They never really faded much, and I can only remember one small tear. I wore them until I finally "grew" out of them and they became too work stained even for me. I don't know what "brand" they were, but I'll bet the company couldn't have stayed in business manufacturing and selling new pairs. I still think about those pants when a discussion of jeans comes up. Totally amazing!

Well, when you are 5yrs old and little Mr. Happy gets caught in a zipper giving you a lifelong aversion to those painfull devices and you only wear 501's then become quite proficient at the button fly...

You know why Dress Blues have 13 buttons?
It's 13 chances for her to say no.

Holy Cow do I remember that. Back around 1970, a pair of swim trunks with a zipper caught Mr. Winkie. I'm still traumatized by that.

What kind of sailor would take more than a second or two in that circumstance?
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
