(...I especially love the Wheaties commercial in this thing!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Joe Weider was the Wheaties guy I remember.

What a puppy you iz!

Okay, while Jack Armstrong was even before MY time(though I DO remember my father mentioning the character to me over my breakfast bowl of Wheaties) I think the first Wheaties box I remember had the Olympic pole-vaulter Bob Richards on it, which according to this Wiki page list of Wheaties box stars would place it at 1958.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_athletes_on_Wheaties_boxes

Saaaay, ya know, this might be fun have the folks around here try to remember the first athlete THEY remember being on a box of Wheaties!

(...sooooo, anybody game here?)

Oh boy, here we go with that old Monty Python "We were so poor that..." routine again, eh Jason?!

I love those "we were so poor" shticks. I always use them when my dad is hovering nearby, cause he always says "now wait a darn minute!", and he gets really exasperated. It's fun to tease dad. My favorite, ala Redd Foxx; We was so poor, that on Xmas eve, dad went out into the alley and fired a shotgun into the air, then came back in and told us Santa Claus just committed suicide!

When I was a kid we didn't even have Wheaties, if you wanted something like that you'd go out to the field with a scythe to get some grain then squirt some milk on it from the utter of ol' Bessie.

We were so poor, that breakfast consisted of government cheese out of a Wheaties box my mother had gotten out of someone's trash in the alley.

We were so poor, if I didn't have a hole in my pocket I wouldn't have had anything to play with.
