So, I'm watching Easy Rider on SonyHD and I can't help but notice how quiet their motorcycles are.

"Don't ever tell them they ain't free cause then they gonna get real busy killin' and maimin' to show that they are."
Wow. Some lines are timeless.

Yep Chet, Nicholson's line there IS pretty much the "nutshell" of "Easy Rider"...especially at a time when PERHAPS this country was even MORE divided than it is today. (...like I said, "perhaps")
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

yep, love that whole exchange...
George: They're not scared of you. They're scared of what you represent to 'em.
Billy: Hey, man. All we represent to them, man, is somebody who needs a haircut.
George: Oh, no. What you represent to them is freedom.
Billy: What the hell is wrong with freedom? That's what it's all about.
George: Oh, yeah, that's right. That's what's it's all about, all right. But talkin' about it and bein' it, that's two different things. I mean, it's real hard to be free when you are bought and sold in the marketplace. Of course, don't ever tell anybody that they're not free, 'cause then they're gonna get real busy killin' and maimin' to prove to you that they are. Oh, yeah, they're gonna talk to you, and talk to you, and talk to you about individual freedom. But they see a free individual, it's gonna scare 'em.

Loved the movie, mostly the visuals and the sound track, but Billy had it mostly right, it was about the 'hair cut". Who in the movie was more or less "not free"? Who in the movie wasn't for sale, everyone basically had a job, except possibly the hitchhiker.
Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.

A few years back, I rode with a guy every saturday who was obsessed with Easy Riders. He read an article in a biker rag about a builder who built an exact replica of Captain America. He contacted him to have one built. Turned out really nice. Later, he bought a second Captain America replica (with an electric start, front fender)from an upstart V-Twin company. Big Dog? I guess the only reason he doesn't have a Billy Bike is because it doesn't have ape hangers.
Didn't buy into the hype, you can keep the change.

I don't think those 2 backwoods hicks in the truck that blew the fellas' off their bikes were for sale. They probably made their way off the grid back in them Louisiana swamps. It was like freedom vs. freedom and the one with the gun won.
I can tell you I am careful who I flip off if I ever do.
