Nope, still can't imagine any valid reason why I should or would want to carry a gun, concealed or otherwise.
Of course, I also can't imagine any valid reason why I would choose to drive a tow truck into a bad neighborhood at 3AM or do repo work..
On a kind of related note.. there are alternatives that sometimes are just as or more effective. I worked for an HVAC company back in my youth. We did a lot of commercial service calls to bars and other establishments in a questionable part of town down in Florida City. Some of these places were known for their wild shoot-outs between the patrons and police. I sometimes got called out there after hours, and while I wasn't really afraid for my life (I was just another working slob and obviously didn't have much money on me), they did like breaking into the van while I was inside working on a refrigeration unit or whatever. Some people would have armed themselves, but in many cases, that would have provoked many of the locals and possibly resulted in escalated violence. I found a simple and elegant solution.. a 10 foot long python that I kept in the back of the Van. It only took one incident for them to get the word out. I was working on a beer cooler one night and all the sudden heard screaming and lots of commotion out the front door. Went out and there was a guy trapped in the back of the van screaming for his life about the snake that he was convinced was going to eat him! Never ever had a single problem after that.

Cheers, Brad

I'm a gun owner,a shooter and a gun lover I'm not telling people they have to own a gun but I don't like it when folks tell me I shouldn't or worse I can't. Anyway,I read on the news this morning that all the wounded bystanders were shot by police. What?

I'm not opposed to sensible gun laws but there are no sensible gun laws.A law gets passed then the screws are tightened. We were issued a "Licence for Life" Really? We knew that wouldn't last! Ooops, Now our licences are for 5 years!
But as has been said,no one will change their point of view on this,so it's fairly pointless talking about it.

During my EMS days I spent 90% of my time in the worst part of town. A gunshot was an invitation. While I did wear body armor my last couple years I somehow made it out alive. I never, ever felt better about things when someone showed up with a gun.

Why body armor, if there's no fear of gun play? Just kidding, I'd F-ing wear it. People forget the the snipers taking out EMS and fire fighters during civil unrest in the past. Ghetto logic, shoot the people trying to save lives and homes.

Recently, in Baton Rogue, a conceal and carry civilian saved a policeman's life by killing a perpetrator."Local station WAFB reported this incident. FBI Supplemental Homicide Reports show that private citizens killed police attackers only three times annually since 2000". If I'm understanding that stat correctly, it means that 36 policemen's lives have been saved since 2000 by civilian gun play.

Except for the fact that these are two supposedly highly trained individuals operating under a strict set of guidelines, it does give us an idea of what would happen when gunfire erupts in a crowded area. I'd hate to think what the carnage would have been hard the response been from 10 civilians instead of 2 LEOs.

Lots of people get riled up by gun talk, one side or the other... Personally, even with all the rounds I've thrown downrange and my extensive training on many firearms, I really don't have much of a desire to own a gun. Not that I wouldn't own one, I just don't have the desire to. My wife and I did talk about it at one point, and she said I could get something if I promise to only shoot an intruder below the belt. No kill shots, you know? She figures nothing we own is worth killing someone for. I'm good with that, because not only would I be able to ensure the criminal gets caught, they will basically become a eunuch after I shoot their dick and balls off. Now, the problem I have with guns is that there is really no reason someone needs to own an assault rifle. It's not for hunting, and it's way overkill for home protection, so what's the point? Why do people need to have AK's and AR-15's?

Disappointed? I'd guess the only chance the bystanders would have is if they killed each other in the early going. Shoot, Ian, I agree with 95% of what you say (which is really starting to concern me).

I love to shoot my assault rifles, just plain fun is all. I have always been taught that if I pull a gun to defend myself that I need to shoot to kill, this comes from my uncle, a federal marshal among others. That way the assailant can't sue you. A family member might try but not the criminal. My main reason to own guns is just fun at the range or in the back yard, nothing more. I do carry and I was also taught if I am going to carry then carry all the time so if you ever need to shoot anyone they have a much harder time arguing premeditation.

well, since I know my wife doesn't read what I put on this forum,in all reality even if I promise her to shoot below the belt, I might miss and put two in the chest and one in the head like I was trained instead

Good for ya!
Less chance the intruder would sue you for their injuries , or come back with their gang friends and get even with you.
I also don't own ANYTHING worth even getting involved with THAT kind of drama, but aside from the fact that I don't OWN the wife or kids, I would go through hell before letting them become a casualty. I've always preached to the family that if you can, grab the gun on your way out the back door. JUST RUN LIKE HELL, and when your out of harms way, call the cops. But if your cornered/confronted or can't get out, shoot to kill.
And I totally agree with you Dave, Why in the hell would you need a AR-15, or equivalent! Are you REALLY in that kinda place? (or gonna resist a government )

The same psychologist say the same thing about fighter jets, motorcycles and mullets.
The powers that be will one day rationalize that no one "needs" a motorcycle. AR-15 is no more dangerous than a regular semi-automatic hunting rifle, it just looks scary, it's also the highest selling firearm in America. It would be impossible to eliminate them from society. Interestingly, according to the FBI far more homicides are committed manually than with "assault" weapons.
Mayor Bloomberg rid NYC of trans-fats and the Big Gulp, tomorrow........ children's smiles.

it's also the highest selling firearm in AmericaI remember reading the NRA blurb about that somewhere.. I think what they actually said was more like the highest selling firearm in it's class (that being assault rifles).. the funny thing is that it is basically impossible to get gun sales statistics in the US. About the closest you can get is the number of FBI background checks which is pretty useless. Private sales for example require absolutely no background check or reporting at all, and many single background checks are for the purchase of multiple weapons or possibly none. The gun manufacturers and import/exporters don't really want people to know how many of what kind of weapons are being sold, which I can understand. And no US agency requires that information to be disclosed (not even ATF!!). I also find it ironic that real weapons, guns that can actually cause significant harm if defective, are not subject to the safety regulations of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), while toy guns like water pistols are! I like what Chris Rock said once: Quote:
Gun control? We need bullet control! I think every bullet should cost 5,000 dollars. Because if a bullet cost five thousand dollar, we wouldn't have any innocent bystanders.

Cheers, Brad

Its not a matter of needs. Its a matter of the power you want to give to the politicians. If you give them power to take away things they deem dangerous......lots of things are dangerous. The number one killer of adolecent children is accidental injury playing sports, number two is auto accidents. They could decide foot ball is too dangerous or even riding in a car is too dangerous and then they can just ban it. They can determine riding a motorcycle is just to dangerous and ban them. Remember 3 wheelers? You dont need a car or football, or even motorcycles. Its just my opinion that politicians make very bad decisions for me. I just don't want them making my personal decisions for me or you.
