It's time to stop using food products as fuel.

I took action and send the letter, I also send them a little blurb on the safety and benifits of "lane splitting" when preformed properly.

I am not aware of a law the we must use 15. Not sure where the 4 gallon minimum comes from. I know EPA permits the sale of E15.

I am with you, I want it all to go away. Driving our food is simply a stupid thing to do.

from how I understand it, only those that buy the E15 will have to buy an additional 4 gallons of real gas on top of it? I avoid putting that corn syrup in my stuff anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem for me. That being said, I don't think it will ever pass, and how will it be enforced? Most gas pumps start over when you hang up the nozzle and if you pay at the pump all you have to do is drive away after getting the fuel of your choice... I know I would

Agree 100 %. Interesting enough there are four fuel stations within 10 miles of my house that have added one or more 100% gasoline pumps in the last 6 months or so.
Go here!

If you click on the headline at the AMA link a further and longer explanation is given. The problem seems to be that, residual E-15 in blender pump hoses won't dilute enough in tanks smaller than four gallons, so the vehicle can get a relatively large dose of ethanol. I guess it could be even worse by just topping off. Unfortunately, no ATVs or motorcycles are on the official E-15 approval list, in which case can release manufacturers from engine failure warranties due to excessive ethanol use. Excessive ethanol use cause engines to run hotter than designed for and can lead to premature failure.

If I understand it correctly, most newer autos' engines are designed to run on E-15, but unfortunately at this point in time the US passenger car fleet is older than anytime since the statistics have been collected. What could possible go wrong?

However it would be cool if mine was designed to run off Moonshine, then I could fill up the bike and top off myself at the same time.

I'll have to check the pump where I got gas last, on the way home today I looked down at my temp gauge and it read about 220ºF where it should have been about 190º.

Man o Man, I can't wait for November! This is just another segment of Obamanomics.....mandating the purchasing power of the the American consumer. First we got Obamacare, now it's the fuel we employ for just about every activity in American life and commerce in the guise of environmental protection. Next thing ya know we'll be madated on how much air we can breath!!!

For those attempting to point blame where none exists, it should be noted that this was the result of "Growth Energy" and 54 other ethanol producers who petitioned the EPA to allow the introduction of E15. The first paragraph of the executive summery (Federal Register Volume 75-68095 November 4, 2010):

Quote:

I. Executive Summary
In March 2009, Growth Energy and 54 ethanol manufacturers petitioned the Environmental Protection Agency (``EPA'' or ``The Agency'') to allow the introduction into commerce of up to 15 volume percent (vol%) ethanol in gasoline. In April 2009, EPA sought public comment on the Growth Energy petition and subsequently received about 78,000 comments. Prior to today's action, ethanol was limited to 10 vol% in motor vehicle gasoline (E10).

And since ethanol has a significantly lower BTU/lb than gasoline, it requires more fuel for the same amount of energy

Cheers,
Brad

Oh that's rich. I'm finding about .20 per gallon higer for pure gas over ethanol blends. As our gubment continues put the pressure on I'm sure the price will continue to climb.
And don't get he started on diesel fuel, why in the hell is that stuff priced like it is gold!

Actually priced in gold, oil is about the same as three decades ago, it's your US Dollar, which oil is traded in, that is devalued, more dollars per gallon. Also, foreign oil producers are government owned and that oil revenue finances their countries' deficit spending, so it's all a sovereign debt merry go round.

Naw Mac, not yet anyway, saving what I got for my biological fuel tank.

This from an article from saturday.

A federal appeals court Friday threw out a challenge by automakers and other groups to a new fuel with a higher blend of ethanol that could damage engines.

The U.S. Court of Appeals in a 2-1 decision rejected a suit brought by Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, Global Automakers, the Grocery Manufacturers Association, the oil industry and other groups that sought to overturn the Enviromental Protection Agency’s approval of E15 -a fuel that includes 15 percent ethanol.

Here's a link concerning projected cost.

http://smarterfuelfuture.org/resource-center/details/consumers-beware-real-cost-of-e15

Note that with present USA fuel and CAFE policy, we are looking at E-40 in a decade

I think they have some local politics at play too. Pure Gas finds no pure gas in my city. The 7th largest city in America with not a drop of pure gas.
