We've had loaded firearms in our home for 17 yrs. We have 2 safes in different locations in our home. No one can get into them except us. We do keep loaded guns in the house when we're home. Our kids, now 24 and 26 were taught to shoot. They were NEVER left at home with guns left out of the safe. They know how to safely handle them and as adults both own them. An unloaded gun on your bedside table or wherever is useless to protect from a home invasion. You might as well not even have one if you keep your self defense weapon unloaded. I also always carry on my bike. I have had extensive training in handgun handling, self defense with weapons (knives included) and without. I have also taught women's handgun classes.

There are a few basic safety rules about handling guns and as long as those are ALWAYS followed there isn't going to be a problem.

The only thing to fear about guns is a lack of knowledge. You drive a car and those kill more people every year than guns do.

I hope you and your family will take the classes and learn what a fun sport shooting can be.

The NRA has great programs for all members of your family.

I was attacked and that'll never happen again I can guarantee it! That's the reason I train and have chosen to carry.

Good luck on your new venture.
