The three main reason why I would never buy a HD:

1. push rods
2. tappett valve
3. chain primary

All 1930 technology still being used at 2012 prices. The engine will not hold up in the comparison and it is even recommend for a tappett change out at 30,000 miles. What part of the engine is Triumph telling you to break down and replace at 30,000 miles?

So Matt, are you talkin' about the hydraulic lifters H-D uses, because I had never heard of this 30,000 mile need to replace those. And so I must ask: Are you absolutely sure about this?

(...btw, the hydraulic lifter setup is one of the things I actually like about H-D pushrod twins because there is supposed never a need to adjust those, unlike our shim-over-bucket modern Triumphs with their 12,000 mile adjustment intervals, which as Ian pointed out above, are a lot more labor-intensive to adjust than were the older Meriden Triumphs with their simple screw-type adjusters)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
