I purchased my BA last year while I lived far from a Triumph dealer. We moved shortly after to a town with a dealership. I have to say I am not impressed. It is a Honda dealer and the Triumphs are an afterthought. Further, they don't seem to do much to promote the brand. On the floor are what look to be a couple 2010 model Americas that have not sold. As for accessories and apparel, a few very highly priced jackets and such. Even the t-shirts are $40+. I won't be surprised if the dealer drops Triumph entirely. A shame, the Harley Davidson dealer in town has got them beat by a long way regarding customer service and belief in their brand.
I am wondering if this is a common occurrence in your areas (US primarily), or if there are a number of well-engaged and enthusiastic Triumph dealers out there.

Odd, the reason I found my triumph dealer was because, the Harley dealer was a complete jerk.
Gulf Coast cycles/British USA is a good dealership. They are fun and friendly folks there who really love triumph motorcycles. They don't always have everything in stock, but I hardly blame them thats an expensive endeavor.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

I have 2 Triumph dealers to choose from. One is much like you describe, selling mostly Honda and Kawasaki, offering no discounts on older model bikes. There is also the new boutique Triumph dealer that also sells Ducati and KTM. They have only been in business for a couple years and have had the Triumph demo truck there at least twice, they have vintage bikes nights, they are attached to a restaurant called the Triumph Grill and are very good to their customers. Moe can attest to their hospitality as we got an after hours tour from the owner after we had dinner there.
The other dealer doesn't get much business from me anymore.
Always remember to be yourself. Unless you suck. Then pretend to be someone else.

I have a good local triumph dealer. They carry Victorys first, but really do good with Triumph. Also have a real good certified Triumph mechanic. The Triumph clothes are hard to get and they don't carry very many of them, but that's not them it's triumph. Parts are by order only most of the time.

I live in a dealer wasteland....the two closest are in another state. One is really a yamaha dealer who also has triumph (though they do have a "triumph only" version of their website - so, that's effort, right? The other one just became a triumph dealer (also a victory dealer) - they seem to be embracing the brand. Time will tell. Either way, it's a haul to get to either of them. It's why I'm slowly learning how to do everything myself.
...you're gonna feel a little pressure....

My dealer, Engles Motors, has been selling BMWs and Triumphs since 1956 in the same location here in Kansas City. I've been doing business with them since 1965, they're great.

Sounds like my Triumph/Honda/Ducati (and now Vespa) dealer. I use the local Yamaha dealer instead. No Triumphs on the sales floor, but Triumph riders in the service department. That works for me. Anything else I need I get from fasteddy or Cycle Gear.

Triumph wasteland here also. There are quite a few dealers in southern Ontario but up north.....6 hour drive to the nearest one.
I've purchased parts from dealers in Stayner, London, Hamilton, Ajax and Ottawa as well as in Montreal Quebec and the staff were great and helpful. No real complaints.

Very nice dealership in Oklahoma City. They also have Suzuki. Lots of Triumph clothing/accessories and a very good shop department. Weekly rides as well as other events at the store. The owner has a vintage motorcycle museum outside of the city in a historic gas station on Route 66 where events are held as well. http://www.performancecycleokc.com/

My dealer in Janesville is great, http://triumph1.com/ It is a husband and wife business that will bend over backwards for you. I was interested in the tsukaiu saddle bags and Todd applied and became a distributor for them and he beat the internet price by $100. 100% Triumph. mike

Collins Cycle in Sutersville PA lost their franchise a couple of years back, however they are still what I consider the primium Triumph service provider in Western PA. I've never waited for service. They usually drop everything to service a regular customer, and I've never been disappointed with the service provided. I've heard no other dealer in the tri-state get that praise and you won't hear that from just me.

Wasteland here. Hours from any dealer. I buy my stock Trumpet parts from Baxter's (good dealership) and my local guy puts them on. Luckily, I haven't put any parts on except for normal wear and tear.

I bought my bike at Hermys, in Port Clinton, PA. Great place! 6 mos later I moved to Massachusetts. The local dealer, which is 100 miles away doesn't impress me. I found a repair shop in my town that can work on my bike, but I do some things on my own. I order all my Triumph parts from Hermys. They do charge for shipping, but they discount the parts because I bought the bike there.
If I were to buy another new Triumph, I'd go back there, even if I had to trailer it home.

I stopped by their dealership August 1, 2007. My goal was to use their fax machine to receive a copy of my proof of insurance for Cinnamon Girl, and to purchase a T'shirt that said Oklahoma City on it. Well the boys there where nice and let me receive my fax. However, the dealership is in a suburb of Oklahoma City: Bethany. So much for a dealership shirt with Oklahoma City on it! BTW the T-shirt says they were established in 1993  Really cool that Performance Cycle is on Rt 66.

I loved St Louis. Loved seeing the Clydesdales and seeing all the old Iron downtown at the Triumph Grill. The arch is shiny too. Budweiser, yuck, but I appreciate the history and the nostalgia nonetheless. Awesome evening after a long ride. Thanks Dave!

I've been happy with my local dealer, D&D Cycles here in Pensacola. Family run and it feels like it. Next closest dealer is a couple hundred miles away. They have been around for some time, currently carry Triumph, Ducati and KTM. Also have other brands on the floor but will work on most any motorcycle. Good people and good shop.

Right, Moe! Performance Cycle is actually in Bethany. I guess i never think about that since it's not many feet away from the OKC city limits. I lived down the street from there, just over into the OKC city limits.

They took 6 weeks to diagnose/fix my issue last year (including me getting stranded half way home when the problem they could not reproduce, well, reproduced) when I had told them from the start that based on information from here I thought it was the CDI (it was). And they told me they'd only sell me a Metzler front tire since the rear didn't need to be replaced and mixing manufacturers was a bad idea. (I went elsewhere, which also had mixed results - I love the Avon, but they didn't tighten down the pinch bolts, lost one & the others had seriously backed out before I noticed).
But - they've been very nice, they came out and picked up the bike after I was stranded (had to have it towed home since they were closed), and been helpful at other times.
Like I say, mixed results.

Two dealers have come and gone in Little Rock since '05. Original dealer sold to the second one. Sadly, they didn't make it. Getting the bike serviced is a bit challenging due to my work schedule and the location of independant shops. Triumph is actively looking for a new dealer in the area. Hopefully, they will find one sooner than later.
Didn't buy into the hype, you can keep the change.

Sorry about your difficulty, sounds like a "perfect storm" situation on the CDI. We all know about the phantom symptoms the CDI failure can cause. I know Engles lurks on these Triumph rider sites, because many Engles staff have mentioned this site specifically.
On the tire situation, they have pretty much always had the non-mix policy. They think there is either a valid tech reason or it's BWM snobbery combined with lawyers and insurance.
I've never had a bad experience, knock on wood. In many cases they've gone far beyond the call of duty, whether coming by after hours delivering parts or helping me rebuild an old Bonnie in my garage. Over the decades, I've seen them do a lot of favors for free.
They've always had essential parts and it always surprises me that they carry many accessories. If they don't have a something, their ordering system is fast.

I don't deal with a dealership. I fix most stuff myself and buy parts on-line. I just don't have a need to visit a dealership but if I did, it would be to try out a new bike.

My dealer is excellent. Not cheap but fair prices for bikes and services. Excellent accessories department. Good waiting area and showroom. Going there is always a bit of a treat.

I've found Engle to be just adequate.....Their service department is first rate.....but it takes way to long to get parts.....I'm STILL waiting for a replacement speedo cable so's I can send Dave's back to him [my order was placed on the 10th]. Probably cause of the lead time from TPA.....but it's always been that way...as long as I can remember...

I'm surprised, when I have ordered parts it usually takes about a week at the most. I thought they got two deliveries a week from Triumph. But, did someone post an article about Triumph USA reorganizing their parts inventory system some months back?

Yes someone did. I recollect that Newnan GA was out of the parts loop. Lead time for parts is one week for dealers and two weeks for the bandit. Give or take a fistful of days.

Back when I had my 64 hard tail, and again when restoring my 68 the wait for parts was really rather lengthy as well. But those were vintage bikes too, so that really was no surprise to me then. But a speedo cable for a 2007 BA....I would think they would have at least one on the shelf, (mainly because of the interchangeablity from model to model) but no. In my experience their inventory reorganization fails the MRPII JIT test to be sure! I think they need to hire me as an inventory/MRP managment consultant to improve their lead time on parts!
14 days and still counting......

Karl, I'm surprised Engles didn't have one on the shelf. When my 04 Thruxton's rear brake switch went out, they had one in stock. When the starter seal on the Truxton sprung an oil leak, I pointed it out to Mike one Saturday, so he'd know what part to order. He asked for the keys, pulled it around back and fixed it, they had the part in stock. But, yes you're right, no speedo cable?
Funny, the internet didn't exist when I rebuilt the 76, all done with Engles and the FAX machine in my office. It's mind blowing how easy it is to get old parts now with access to the world.

Well, my dealer is no longer a Triumph dealer. No comment. I will say about an hour away, is a bike shop, D & D Imports, Norfolk, VA, who is a Triumph dealer. Bike shop, not boutique. I can not comment about their parts availability, but I can say A+ customer service, and 5 aces on my 6,000 mile services, and all my knuckleheaded questions.
Dude will reply to your emails, and phone calls about even the smallest legit issue or question. They are an hr away, and I kick myself for not buying from them, when I had a dealer 20 minutes away (with whom I had done previous business).
Since we are asking about dealers, I felt the need for a shameless plug, based on my interactions w/ these guys. I go to VA Beach often, and always try to stop by and check in.

No problem with my Dealer in Pompano Beach.
They only carry Triumph & Ducati.
The Trumpets are the first ones you see when you come in
the door, then the Ducs. Good service dept, parts orderded
come when they say they would. Don't go there much, though.

i have the privledge of living very near one of the best dealers that i have ever done biz with!!!! Family run, great mechanics, and a pretty fair parts rack. every sat he offers free burgers and dogs so there is always a gathering of like minded people there. he deals in BMW,Triumphs, and Duc's. They all are riders and are always willing to help any way they can. Gulf Coast Motorcycles in Ft. Myers Fl. i really cant say enough nice things about this group of people, i mean everyone there are good people.
