Removing the snorkel will allow more air in therefore leaning it just a bit. It's worth a shot.
Be sure to test it at different throttle positions as well. While you may lean out idle or off idle response to an acceptable level you may also lean up midrange to an unacceptable point. You'll know it if you do. It'll feel like you ran out or low on fuel.
