Not firing on the left side, so I start the process of elimination...

One question for those in the know re: Procomm vs OEM... Is one preferred over the other? Besides cost, what other factors should be considered? Reliability? Mods?

I am basically stock but w/ no AI, TPS removed, K&N filter, Nology coils.

Before you condemn the CDI, check the coils. Remove the tank, pull the 2 primary wires from the left coil and switch them with the 2 on the right one. Also take the plug wire from the left and switch with the right. If the no fire condition switches to the right, you have a bad left hand coil. If the problem stays on the left, the CDI is probably the culprit.

From what I have heard about CDI units, the OEM appears to be better. The Procom units seem to have a bit of a problem when starting the bikes. Maybe someone who owns one can pipe up.

One question I forgot to ask, by "Not Firing" have you confirmed that there is no spark at the plug by pulling it, then resting it on the head while cranking to check for spark? Do it to both plugs.

I have to say Wendy's bike starts right up with the Procon as easy or easier than the stock unit but the performance isn't as good cold so far. I would buy the oem if it was my bike.

I got a Procom from Jim (Moe), plugged it in, set it on #6, and never gave it a second thought. I've totally forgot it was changed out. I experienced NO differences. I can't even remember when. Six months maybe???

Go figure!?

I agree the Gill OEM is probably better and the original Procoms had a cold starting problem, but that was worked out not long after the first defective batch. That said, I'd probably go with the Procom, cheaper and programable, use the price difference to pay my bar tab.

So, anyone running the Procom without a TPS? The Procom's installed (switch setting 5) and I'm happy to be riding again, but I have low RPM hesitation and occasional misfire/pop even when warmed up. Other than that all is good.

I am running stock but with no TPS and AI removed.

Is there a better setting or downloadable map that will accommodate my setup?
