Hello all!
I'm headed to New Orleans on a really short trip for work later this week. I'm flying from Washington State, so no I won't be on the bike. I've never been and will likely only have one or maybe two evenings free to see the town. Any suggestions from those of you more familiar with the area?
Thanks--John

Hermes Bar in the old Antoines restaurant (French Quarter) has great list of wine for happy hour and first class h'ordeuves. If the guy behind the bar has time ask him history of the place and see if you can get him to take you for a guided tour of the restaurant.

Frenchman Street in Marignay area just east of French Quartre great for music but then a stones throw from Antoines you'll find a dozen places to hear great blues and jazz.

keep your wallet in a front pocket, don't wonder off Bourbon St, Famous Door has great bands, 3-Legged Dog has great drinks and is out of the way, Delmonico's is pricey but food and service can not be beaten (Emrile's place in NOLA) Beware of Handgrenades and Hurricanes Beware of Papa Joe's, they look like girls but they aint girls.

Almost forgot! You have to check out Root, it's a new restaurant that an old friends brother opened and is the head chef. They've received rave reviews. As soon as I can get home I will be driving go NOLA to go to Root!

Probably because after too many handgrenades, you can't tell the girls from the "girls"!

Excellent suggestions Buckster!! Nothing wrong with Hurricanes or Handgrenades, they just have a tendancy to sneak up on some folks and leave them lying on Bourbon St missing their wallet! =)

Yep Buckster, Jazzfest is a great suggestion. I played there back in 98 during my short stent in college. That's how I knew about the Handgrenades. Them and a few other recreational pursuits is why I didn't finish college.
