At the risk of sounding a little more right wing than usual (!!) it took me years and not an insignificant amount of time to get a green card. I also have to pay taxes ("Taxation without representation" - gee, used to be a bit of an issue some years back) and STILL cannot vote. I did all this legally, filling in all the forms, paying for all the paperwork, and all to earn my way to becoming a legal immigrant.

I don't regret it and, indeed, expected it. Yet I am really irked that all my years and effort of going through the legal route, it looks like I should have just walked over the border.

By all means streamline the immigration system, help cut down on paperwork, but illegal IS illegal and suddenly changing the status of an estimated 11 million people from illegal to legal seems like the wrong way to do things to me.

It's just not cricket, gentlemen.
