Two things - If she would care to comment on the impact of illegal aliens (IAs)to her part of the Criminal Justice System, I'd like to hear Becky weigh in. If not, I'd understand.
From my end, I've been impacted two ways: (1) Step-son can't get honest wages for construction work, because of an influx of IAs in this area; (2) I'm tired of the "but they pay taxes too," BS-argument. Had a case where a young IA couple (witnesses)circumvented paying taxes by getting 11 expemptions (between the two of them) on their W-4 forms. Knowing they can't file for Fed and State taxes (bogus SSNs), they're getting as much as they can, week to week. A possibility is to for the Feds to get them for failing to file tax returns. If they've been on the up-and-up, then it's just the immigration issue. Let them register as guest workers for an 8 month period out of 12, pay a bond up front to ensure they go home when the work period is finished.
The Denver Post had an article about our southern border being a sieve, not only for persons from Mexico, but Central and South America, and the rest of the world as well. Perhaps it's time to do away with posse comitatus for regular military forces within two miles of the US-Mexican border, and/or activate the respective National Guard units of the affected states.
I will say this, no matter what my stand is on how they got here, I do believe in the tenets of my state and US Constitutions that they are entitled to a form of due-process for any crimes committed while here, and for deportation proceedings.
