I can add a couple: -take a spin up Route 7 into Litchfield County if spring or summertime, nice small towns, quaint feel, winds along the very slowly rolling Housatonic. Stop at Bulls Bridge. -up in Maine, you can do the Acadia thing, and Bar Harbor, or maybe an hour south, go to Blue Hill and then down to Stonington/Deer Isle for all the touristy stuff without all the touristys. Much more relaxed, less crowded, still good seafood, and lots of twisty back roads that run along the Gulf of Maine. Out in Colorado, I've heard the Million Dollar Highway down near Ouray is pretty spectacular, meaning to head down that way when I can. -The Grand Tetons are pretty darn impressive as Yellowstone, but less crowded, and fun to swing down to Jackson Hole. - maybe a stop out into the Ogalala National Grasslands to get a sense of what the old west prairie REALLY was like before it became endless subdivisions of 0.1 acre homes... - a cruise out to Bear Lake in Utah or Lake Tahoe -oh, and I'll agree with San Fransisco, beautiful town.
