Yeah, well Matt, I suppose a reminder for good hygene ISN'T necessarily a bad thing, however that LAST advisory there sure seems like it might be taking ALL the fun outta wearing that piece of apparel! (...I mean HOW on earth is one EVER going to impress others by setting their farts on fire with a Bic or a match IF they abide by THAT one, HUH?!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I can't believe it's made in the U.S., it must be a vintage article

I'm saying it because rarely do you find clothes that have a 'Made in the USA' tag

Dave, I'd be happy to show you my "Made in the USA" tags in my Diamond Gussett jeans, elk skin ropers, Chippewa boots and Aerostich jersey but I won't be at the rally to do it. I love the Aerostich label, at the bottom of the tag it says "go ride your bike"

Ed, I'm not saying you can't find stuff made here, but you have to admit it's getting harder every day.

Yes, Dave, it isn't as easy or as inexpensive as it was. But it's doable, so I try every chance I get when it makes sense.

Nice! We're making Mercedes, Hyundais, Hondas and Toyota engines here in Alabama and our workers are crossing into Georgia to make Kia's. We lost the bidding war on the plant but we're populating the workforce. Then there's the fantastic VW Passat factory over in Chattanooga but we don't admit losing that to the rascals in TN :-)

Other than automobiles, I work in a glorified machine shop that makes all kinds of aerospace parts, for private, buisness, commercial and military aircraft, Items for NASA, some weapons components, and even a few peices for good ol John Deere.

What is sad is that we have to depend on foreign manufactures to supply us with jobs. All the profit slowly makes its way overseas.

Doesn't bother me so much because the wages stay here. And they're investing in plants here, that's stripping a lot of the money out and it's landing here. Could it be better, maybe, but the products are really good and we make them.

So many forget, that Ford and GM manufacture cars in plants all around the world.

Hey, I am glad somebody is willing to invest jobs in the USA. I just wish we as Americans could produce more of our own products. Its not a fast bleed, but in 20 years we will be in a worse not better situation.

Twenty years is a long time, I doubt we can predict. Remember decades ago when the sky was falling, Japan was going to bury us? Unfortunately, they over borrowed and are still suffering the effects, some say, lost decades. Before Japan it was the Soviets. Now it's China and they've got huge domestic problems. So whose to say? I'm still optimistic, but hey sh-t can change.

People put their capital in funds that invest the world over. As long as the manufacturing plants are on shore, regardless of institutional headquarters, we'll be okay.

Gotta say I'm a bit surprised to see nobody has revived this thread from a few weeks back, now that there's this whole brouhaha goin' on over where the U.S. Olympic Team's uniforms were made. (...what?!...is everybody with an opinion around here still on that "Global Warming" thread or somethin'???)

Well, Ralph Lifsitz..er Lauren designed and made the uniforms in China, most likely to save a private organization, U S Olympics, money. Even at that, the beret alone cost about $60 a piece, so you can imagine what the whole outfit cost. Hickey-Freeman, a USA firm, has offered to replace the outfits, FYI a H-F sports coat goes for about $750 each, that's their low end. Meanwhile, back in the US Senate, they are introducing a law to force US Olympics, a private organisation, to only wear USA manufactured uniforms. The country is going to hell in a hand basket and the Senate's leader has his panties in a bunch over this, must be an election year. Interestingly, I wonder if the pol realizes Ralph Lauren is a big campaign contributor and sponsors a lot of sports and charitable organizations. I don't agree with RL's politics, but he has done a lot for charities over the years, think Big Pony. I'd give him a break.

Yes, but except for all the plastic parts, we don't discuss Japanese bikes often.

I've got to say, it doesn't matter where these are made they look "GAY". Especially the freakin Berets. Gee I wonder if the US basketball team will wear them.

You don't love that Ralph Lauren / Brooks Brothers / J.Press ivy league "Great Gatsby" preppy "old money" WASP look? It's actually the only true American originated fashion. Well, if you don't count t-shirts, 501 Levis, and tennis shoes.
Here’s how much the uniforms cost: Men: Beret – $55 Tie – $125 Belt – $85 Shirt – $425 Blazer – $795 Trousers – $295 Shoes – $165 Women: Beret – $55 Scarf – $58 Belt – $85 Shirt – $179 Skirt – $498 Blazer – $598
They are made top drawer, because the Olympic Team members probably keep their uniforms for posterity. Although, while I wear "Ivy Style" clothing, yes I'm preppy, the angle of the photos I've seen make the uniforms look like the jackets are too short and tight, the photos make the team members look like third world dictators.
Funny how the media made a big celebration during the China Olympic games, when the US Basketball team made a pilgrimage to their uniform manufacturer's factory, in China.

...and DOO-RAGS! Leave us not forget doo-rags here, Mac!!! (...though I suppose those probably originated more from the "Pirates from Tortuga" around the 16th Century than they are a true "American" style...contrary to what most Harleys riders might think!)
