Too funny...but many moons ago a buddy did this same thing to get rid of limbs that had fallen from an ice storm around his yard. The pile was about the same size, and the same accellerant was used. The flash pool of vapor set his house on fire too!
Which brings to mind the old Native American adage.....

My buddy acumulated a much larger pile, so he cut himself a little path to the middle with his chain saw, placed an old crib mattress in the middle (cleaned out the parents' basement), and soaked it with diesel. Amazing. I have a picture somewhere....

Blew myself up once doing that. Wasn't my stupidity but we had a pile of junk out of a house we got and I went in to get a light. While I was inside someone put gas on the pile unknown to me. I had left a pocket under the pile to get a good light.l It was furniture and bedding and old clothes and such. Well fumes must have built up in that pocket and when I lit it it blew me back about 10'. I am told I was laying there is shock for a few minutes with smoke coming out of my then long hair.I had no shirt on and holes in my jeans, everywhere I wasn't covered was pretty badly burned. I was looking down so my eyes and eyelashes were OK because they were shadowed by my brow. My nose was scabbed over so I could push on it and the dent would stay there for a while. It was a long hot summer and I was miserable for quite a while. Spent most of the summer in a cold bath tub. Never went to a doc due to lack of money and to my amazement I had no scarring.
I learned all I need to know about life by killing smart people and eating their brains.
Eat right ,Exercise ,Stay fit, Die Anyway!

Yeah, "no scarring" ya say, eh Ian?! Well, NOW that's you've told us about this, I'M kinda thinkin' that THAT right THERE might kinda explain your "condition" TODAY! Uh huh..."PTSD Syndrome"!!! (...and here up to NOW, I was thinkin' it was probably all those times you might've banged your head while crashin' your bike without a helmet on that you've told us about before!!!)
