I'm not worried about the price, I plan to win the free one.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Sub £14,000 (about $21,000) for the 'base' model. But in the US, you pay in $$ what we pay in ££ so probably pay sub $14,000 (£9,300 ish)

Perhaps if the funds were available the desire for wanting a new Trophy wouldn't be so strong. The wife in grad school, daughter going to private school and home improvement projects are top priority. Man, that's a good lookin' bike. One of these days though, one of these days. Oh yeah, maybe by then a new Triumph dealer will open in Little Rock. I know they are looking, they contacted a local independent shop. He didn't seem interested. He loves the V-twins
Didn't buy into the hype, you can keep the change.

I was in the dealer today, They don't know anything we don't but I noted that the MSRP on the tiger 800 and the adventure tourer were very much in line with equivalent bmw bikes. That would put the trophy se somewhere over 21k.

I bought a new RT last year and am amazed at how similar the photos are to the BMW. I was having some remorse until I saw the weight. It's over 90 lbs heavier than the RT. Weight was a major factor in my choice of the RT although its difficult to detect except in a parking lot. Anyway, since its a Triumph, I probably would have bought one if it had been available last November but I don't regret buying the BMW. It's a great touring machine and a good change when not cruising on the TBA.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. The RT is a real nice machine and the Trophy should be too.
I like it and can't wait to test ride one!

Yes I suppose they look alike because they are built for the same specific purpose... fast touring. The Trophy should have everything you need for a jaunt across the country. Cruise control, hard bags, top case, ABS, fairing, comfy seat, etc. I still maintain Cruisers have similarities also. Who can tell a Harley from a Road Star from a VTX at a small distance? Maybe the best solution is to keep your BA ( T-bird or Rocket III) and get a Trophy to keep it company in the garage.

Well said Paul. Actually the bags look like they were "ripped" from the Sprint GT. Now, where those bags came from I do not know, but they are a big upgrade, in my opinion, from the bags Triumph used to market.
I love the folks comparing this bike to their Bonnies, as in, "I like my Bonnie better". How are those even comparable??? I love them all! Good job Triumph and keep growing.

I have NO plans to get rid of the America for one of these. The America remains one of the best "all-around" bikes IMHO. Cruiser? sure, capable tourer? (mostly one up), commuter? YES I have logged many thousands of miles on the road two and from work. Is it the best in any of these classes? Maybe Cruiser. but as an all around machine it just plain rocks. That said, long distance / two up touring requires a different class of machine altogether (at least for folks our size). Also, seat height is a consideration as is peg placement. If I add a Trophy to the garage it would be to replace the big Yamaha touring machine (and maybe the Suzuki standard just to keep the peace :-) )

Ya know guys, a few years ago I would've been crazy for a Sport-Tourer like this, however it seems lately I'm starting to see more of the advantages a Dual-Sport(aka the "Adventure" bike) would afford one out there on a long ride, such as the new Triumph Explorer which this new Trophy is of course based upon.
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I haven't tried the explorer but i did try a tiger and didn't care for the riding position.

Well I guess if your were really exploring (no pun intended) this great country of ours, I can see how a Tiger E. might be better suited. There are probably lots of roads or near roads that offer great scenery off the beaten path that the Trophy would not like at all. I test road a Tiger once but my feet kept coming off the little pegs. I guess I was too used to a cruiser. Do you think I would look fat on a Tiger, Yota? Don't answer that!

I get around some and find plenty of adventure... with pavement, except for that one time Wade and I went fishtailing through several inches of new gravel for a couple of miles to see a covered bridge. Still excited but just got back from an almost 2K mile run and still wondering about price and the general size of the seating area. I need two up with comfort to sell this as a replacement for the Yamaha Tour Deluxe.

Ah nothing like fresh tar and gravel. Last time for me was on Rt. 666 in Pennsylvania. (2010).
So I might do the Four Corner's ride on a 2013 Trophy. Yep, when I win the contest I intend to return the beast with a wee bit of mileage on the odometer.

Sub £14,000 (about $21,000) for the 'base' model. But in the US, you pay in $$ what we pay in ££ so probably pay sub $14,000 (£9,300 ish)
My crystal ball wasn't too far out - standard Trophy = £12,949 and SE = £14,299
Good review in this months Motorcycle Sport & Leisure magazine (in the shops 7th Oct). 54.5 mpg @ 75mph 132 bhp, 89lb-ft of torque. 26 litre tank (range = theoretical 320+ miles to a UK gallon).
The writer says he will take the reader through the 11 biggest parts of the bike to consider.
Marked out of 10 ..
1: Chassis = 10/10 All new chassis (obviously!!) weights 11.3kg! Narrow centre section means the tester (5'9" - 28in inside leg) could get both feet on the floor.
2: Suspension = 10/10 "Several times with the bike leant over in long corners I deliberately chopped on and off the throttle, trying to unsettle the bike and get it bouncing under power. Try as I might, the bike remained perfectly level, stable and predictable. It's a joy to ride this bigger sporty tourer at pace. And it's also very good at a city crawl too."
3: Screen / fairing & accommodation = 11/10 (must be good!!) "Comfort is spot on, ergonomics are good and there is lots of room on the Trophy without feeling cramped ... the fairing with all it's bulges and flared this and that might look a bit odd at first glance but it's one of the best fairings you'll ever sit behind ... even in driving rain and forceful winds, for hours of riding at a time, there was probably no more than 10% of water that made it past the fairing ... 6'4" down to short arses all shared the same opinion"
4: Panniers & top box = 8/10 They have that TDLS mechanism where they move a little (I had that on the Sprint). Marked down because they are square and boxy and easy to kick getting on and off. MSL suggested to Triumph they have rubber bumpers. They are looking into it apparently.
5: Feel = 9/10 "... with the linked brakes and the feel, response and overall performance from the bike is at a level that would embarrass relatively recent superbikes"
6: The clever stuff = 10/10 "... lockable glove box with power supply ... credit card holder designed for gloved hands (useful for toll booths) ... foam runs inside the fairing to direct heat out of the bike, not at the rider ... tyre pressure monitors (SE version) ... GPS mounting brackets ... USB port in the glove box for iPods etc ... can have bluetooth ... cruise control"
7: Computer system = 6/10 Basically they say the BMW system is much more intuitive and far easier to navigate but, like anything, spend some time with it and you'll get it.
It's at this point (after 7 points) there doesn't appear to be any more! Might be a problem with the electronic copy on my iPad. I dunno. If any more appears I'll letcha know or if someone buys the paper copy, maybe they can finish this off

December Cycle World write up s a total thumbs up by Paul Dean.
It handles...blah blah blah...it handles....!
It's a Triumph. So it attacks the curves and has a high torque plateau realized on launch.
Electronic Suspension, Traction Control, Bluetooth, Drive-By-Wire...loaded like the best of them, which it should soon be recognized as one...
Seriously. I'll just sell my truck, and buy a 'Stich and. Trophy!

Yep, Kevin. And in the latest issue of Motorcyclist magazine, they also did a short "first ride" review of the Trophy and said they were very impressed with it.
(...can't wait to see their coming comparison writeup with the Beamer RT...should be interesting)

canadian pricing: 19,999+1000 of dealer add-on. About 3K less than equivalently equipped R1200RT.
