Life itself is full of risk. wear a helmet in the shower to prevent head injuries in a slip and fall.

Wear a helmet EVERWHERE YOU GO, it will help prevent head injuries from auto accidents, trip and falls, strong arm robberies, airborne debris, even bird ****** in the eyes, that could lead to a deadly accident.

Wear one while jogging, on construction sites (hard hats don't provide the ultimate in protection), while camping, water skiing, etc.

Opinions are like butt holes, everyone has one, and generally only care about theirs.

I believe helmets provide protection, as stated above and elsewhere, IF you are involved in an incident. Can't argue with that. I also believe you may avoid that incident, a percentage of them anyway, if your senses are enhanced, or lets say, not impaired by the bulb over your head. Will anyone argue that their hearing, peripheral vision, the hair on the back of your neck, and just your overall senses are ENHANCED by wearing a helmet!?? I hope not, or your just spewing crap.

I see about 90% of the responses have been "Go your own way". You choose your risks. I KNOW someone who knows you, and loves you, would PREFER you DIDN'T ride on a motorcycle to begin with (I CERTAINALY HOPE SO!). How can you open yourself up to the inherent risks, that we have ALL acknowledged, by throwing a leg over a bike?

I wish I had Dwight's talents for finding the obscure, I'd post that age old cartoon of the head in the jar, on the lab table, with ALL KINDS of instruments, machinery, and devices hooked to it, with the head smiling and saying "If it weren't for my Bell 5000, I'd be dead right now".

I have friends, some on this site, who have expressed that if they couldn't enjoy their ride without being bundled up like a fragile glass in a USPS box, with the wind in their face, they would probably quit riding. They're probably exaggerating, but I respect their views, and wouldn't dare try to make them do otherwise. (caught THAT one, didn't I Ian?)

I've never wore a helmet on my cruiser (until RECENTLY), with rare exception. I've always wore one on my sport bikes, with rare exception. I always wear one on the dirt bikes. VERY different style of riding on each for me, with VERY different risks on each. I push my limits on the last two, I don't push the limits on my cruiser. But that's just me. I wear one on the cruiser now, cause I (read "I") just feel better 70% of the time (DON'T read too much into this comment, as I'm 56 now, and sooner or later, I'll probably prefer a trike). It may also make the difference between an open casket @ my funeral, or a closed one. (either way, I'd rather not get there in the first place)

This thread is as beneficial as the oil threads, gun law debates, Row vs Wade, etc. Nothing will be gained here, only angered feelings and arguments. Lets let this one go the way of those old oil threads (we know they'll raise their ugly heads again SOMETIME in the future). It's no wonder the "old timers", including the Mod's, don't post much anymore.

Choose your risks, don't push your views down other peoples throats. Everyone here is over 21, and certainly capable of making their own decisions in life, even the ones that turn out wrong for any given situation.
