I can't speak to people peddling around the subdivision on their Huffy but I've never even met anyone stupid enough to climb on a mountain bike without a helmet. If you're a serious rider you WILL crash occasionally. Shoot, if you are a professional rider you WILL crash. It will hurt, too, because you are probably flying through the air down the side of a mountain at the time. Most serious mountain bikers go through a couple helmets a year.

My worst crash I wasn't able to tuck and roll as I was in an uncontrolled descent. I hit elbows first, driving my humerus (upper arm) bones through my AC joint (the end of the shoulder) snapping them. Both labrums were torn, as were all the major tendons in both rotator cuffs. I had four surgeries over 7 months. Rehab took about a year. My helmet was destroyed but did its job. Pretty sure I would have had a broken head without it.

Last summer I broke a clavicle riding out in Moab, Utah.

Yeah, I wear a helmet when I ride my bicycle.

Wow Chet, i am thinking that bull fighting wouldbe safer then that man! LOL
