Wearing a helmet & protective gear, or a seatbelt in a cage still doesn't stop stupid people from doing stupid $h!t in vehicles, or prevent the potential outcomes of their stupidity.
Fer instance, yesterday riding home from work (in helmet & jacket [@93 deg. heat]), a little red Neon jumped out from behind a KCTA bus to pass (in a no passing/school zone)into my lane w/ only 150 or so feet between us. I was clocking along @ 35-40mph & had nowhere to go to escape certain head on disaster. I hit the brakes hard and steered as far as could to the RH side of the road and came to a stop as the Neon swerved by & barely missed clipping me by maybe a foot or less.
I rest my case!
