The picture showing the cable adjusters is like on my 02. In my several times adjusting the throttle cables at the carbs, I was amazed how it was almost impossible to turn the adjusters and lock nuts, especially on the left side. As they are hard up against the bracket that holds it all together. I'm not sure about the other linkage question, but in my opinion it is a bad design overall.
