An older friend of mine is interested in selling his cycle, so he asked me what he thought is was worth. A couple of fellows tried to buy it years ago, but he turned them down. It's a 70s (?) Honda 400 automatic. It has been in his garage for ten years without being run. And no, I'm not gonna advise him to get it running so he knows what he has. I'm skeptical that it is worth much at all, but what do I know? Any opinions out there? Is it maybe a gold mine because of it's rarity?

You're right, Rich. Because it's an automatic, there tends to be less interest in that model, and thus they tend to demand lower prices. It's the same with the larger Honda CB750 automatics, also.

My guess would be that around $400-500 would be about tops for it.

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

At our last rally, one of the vendors had one, he had modified it so it was peppier. But, at best, it drew curious stares. I don't think anyone there pictured themselves on one. He had gotten and rebuilt it for his wife. However, I will qualify that with a "I don't know squat about them" tag line.

Looks like you can find them from $400 to around $1250...at least the 400 models. Seems the 750s are developing a little cult following and are fetching 3 grand or more.

If it ran, around here the best you could get is around a grand. As is, like Dwight said, about half that at best. That being said, I know someone who would probably be interested. PM me

My friend did sell it a few days ago to a fella that has wanted it for a while. $200. That ain't much, but then it was pretty rough. And my dealer, who knows a little about everything, said they also had a history of burning up stators and CDI units. I'd hate to try and locate either of them for a bike this old!
