I though our readers would like this one? They reckon things go better with Coke. Over the weekend, I wanted to check my carb balancing but I didn't have a temporary fuel container. So necessity being the mother of invention, I put together this little number that cost me zilch and worked like a charm.

Looks like a patient in ICU. Clever!

Interesting, but is it necessary? I personally never had a problem checking/adjusting carb balance with the tank in place.

Agreed Ken, you don't need to remove the fuel tank to check your carb balance, but what type of special screw driver did you use to adjust the carb synchronisation screw with your fuel tank in place?

I have used 3 options:
1) 1/4" drive hex socket with PH1 bit, approx. 42mm OAL 2) above PH1 hex bit alone, approx. 25.1mm OAL 3) 90 degree offset specialty phillips head driver (I don't recall the dimensions)
There's not much room to work, however then again, the balance screw gets turned very little.
Access is from the port-side only, as the oil pressure sender blocks access from the starboard side.

Long set of needle nose pliers works well from the shifter side. Nice thing about that as well is you don't put downward pressure on the screw which may also give you a false reading.

A while back, someone suggested using long reach needle nose pliers. I happen to subsequently find a pair on sale at Harbour Freight. They seemed to work just fine.

Looks like it works great. I just set my tank on a nearby shelf and used a piece of tubing to "extend" the fuel flow.

I do the same thing, plus it's not a bad idea to take the tank off to clean and check things out. It only takes three minutes to take the tank off.

Does anyone sell a replacement balance screw with a hex head or socket head or something that doesn't cam out like a Phillips; or it the stock screw a posi-drive?
