Moral and ethical character? They are lawyers! Lawyers with moral and ethical character are the ones you find every afternoon sitting in a bar drowning their guilt.
Lawyers with moral and ethical character are readily identifiable. They are wearing off-the-rack suits and driving older cars, cause the prosecutor's office doesn't pay as well as private practice.
Actually, most lawyers don't actually make the kind of money we imagine, that's why so many go to work for the government. Also, prosecutors and gov lawyers are probably the most abusive of the law and you can't sue them because of sovereign immunity (well if you can find a lawyer to sue a lawyer). In many parts of the country many prosecutors can also have a private civil practice on the side as long as there is no conflict with gov entities. The real lawyer money is in lobbying, politics, the huge class action suits or medical malpractice. Lawyers are like cops, they're great when you really need one.
Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.
