Hi you all,

I still have a heavy heart (that will take a while to get better), but I've heard that the next rally will be coming soon and it was one of John's favorite.

I'm trying to get patches and/or stickers for people to show their appreciation for the man who took so good care of us here at ba.com.

I got a couple of ideas for the patch. I'm opened to change, and if the ones who were most close to the Good Friar had something else in mind, please share so that I can correct the patch/sticker to reflect John as well as possible.

The first 2 are patches ideas. the years are the registered dates John was on this forum (don't know if it would be better to have born and passing years instead).

The other one would be a sticker, the kind without the dark background, just stick-on white contour. I got suggestions to have a bulldog background, but couldn't come up with something I liked... so I stuck with the dog collar.

So, please, comment so I can get it right.

Thanks!

Good job Jeff! I like the second patch best with
John's actual birth date. The sticker too, with birth date. This is just my opinion. Anything you decide on is good for me. I appreciate you doing this.

Jeff... you're the best for doing this. Yes, John's favourite rally is just 41 days away. Logistically is it possible to make and ship to be received in time? The rally starts July 19 but people from here attending would want them well in advance of the event so as to have them sewn on before leaving home. Hmmm, not much time.

Otherwise I'm wondering if the patch should have Friar's birth year instead of the year 2005. Oh, and how about moving "Friar" to the front so it reads, "Friar" John Bedard. Btw, I think the caricature is a fair representation of the good Friar.

Jeff, I hold back the tears too... pretty much ever waking hour. Your effort through your pain is so much appreciated. Thanks, man!

Still thinking... maybe it is too late to have them in time to be sewn on our vests and jackets before the Nelson RAT Raid. If so you could send enough to me to hand out to ba.com attendees at the rally.

Live to love, love to live.

I am with Paul on the birthdate idea.

Another suggestion would be to put "Friar" before John Beddard.

And if possible include "BonnevilleAmerica.com 2005 - 2012." perhaps outside the dog collar.

And thanks again for your concern and thoughts.

Don't mean to be picky but isn't Chuclehead spelled Chucklehead.

I like the second patch too but with his life dates. Ba.com would be great too but it risks becoming too busy IMO.

oops! I missed that one!
That's why I always submit for approval before doing anything... I'm not perfect and I do make mistakes.

I'll put John's date instead (that'd be 1968 - 2012, right?)
And I'll put "Friar" in front of John.

I'm afraid that adding "bonnevilleamerica.com" might be lost and unreadable on the patch... but could be ok on the sticker.

As for time frame, either I try to hurry up and get them done ASAP and send them (that might be hard to ship to everyone all over the place in time) or I ship them to one (like Keith offered) and to be distributed at the rally.

Another option is if someone has contacts with patch makers and sticker printers, I could just send the computer file and it could be done in the US.

BTW, how many do you think we need?
Once I know how many we need, I could ask for prices around here.

The first one, with birth year, and John "Friar" Bedard.

To us he was Friar but before that he was John. Friar was his nickname/forum handle so it should be in the middle.

I agree with Z. My first thoughts were:
John "Friar" Bedard.
His birth year to present
Wish there was a way to include BA.com since this was his site and baby but it is getting a bit tight to fit.

Thanks for letting us input our thoughts.

I love the first 2 and would like one of each, maybe 2 stickers. I also think birth and death would be best. I was thinking that Friar should be before his name rather than after too but either way the point is the rememberance and honor and show of respect and loss. I think just the effort to do this is great.

He was always "Friar John", that's his handle.
I think "Friar" needs to be in front of his name .
And be certain of his birth year.

John was born in 1967 not 2005.

That one I figured out!

2005 to 2012 was the years that John spent on ba.com

Seems that 1968 - 2012 is more appropriate but I would like if someone could confirm 1968 just to be sure.

Actually BA.com started in 2002 and I am pretty sure he was an original member in that first year.

He was 45, his birthday was in February. So, if that age is correct it would be '67.

I'm not sure 2005 was when John first joined BA.COM, Dwight might know. My memory sucks, but I thought he was a member prior to the site change. That might be moot, since his birth year might be more appropriate for celebrating his life.

Ok, changed for 1967.

Actually, made number of changes, waiting on confirmation and I will post them here again.

Do you think that about 100 patches and 150 stickers would be ok? Too few? too many?

Patches looks great Jeff ,the 2nd one is my fav . count me in on 2 patches and 2 stickers . i like the Friar in quotes at the front of his name but either way id be happy to wear it .also i wonder if everyone would be agreeable to adding a buck or two to the price to help keep the site up an running, its just a thought but at some point someone will have to take over the running of this site and some $ in the kitty may help . as i say just a thought . thanks for doing this Jeff and if i can help in anyway let me know .

Getting there, I think.

Gettin' close there, Jeff, however I think the "Friar" should go before John's name.

I mean, that's how we always addressed him, right?!

Two patches Please..Extra money for the loose ends..perhaps funding for search committee for new moderator and funding for the site..I believe John had a number of BA.com patches that would need to be sent to the new moderator by the family or perhaps picked up when attending the memorial..Sounds a little cold but a fact of life and Friar would approve..God Speed Friar and send another gaurdian angel for me,as I can never have too many!!!

This is the one I like.
I actually liked the Hammer of Smith comment but I can go either way on that. Id be ok with no comment but his face centered if it came to that.

Id be happy to pay the extra $ on whatever price is set as long as Johns family gets the residual funds.

BA.com patches are for the site, the John patch should be for his family to donate/use as they see fit. I believe one of his cousins recently joined the site and had a suggestion for donations to go to families of fallen riders (if that charity exists).

If a charity to benefit the families of fallen riders doesn't exist...how about creating one? (503-C tax exempt status) I've read too many obits on this forum alone since I joined....seems like the right thing to do.....

+3. The patches are for ba.com members. We all knew him as Friar John. I too was thinking the patch and sticker could be the same. Not sure the star thing suits it. Just an opinion... I'd be proud wearing anything in John's honour.
