Well the time has arrived for me to find out how my parents felt when I started. I have 3 sons middle one aged 25 completed his full MC test 2 years ago, he is now able to ride a full power bike and has been pestering me for some time to look out for one. This little gem came up at work for sale so he is now the proud owner of a Kawasaki GPZ500s, as said he has the full test and also had a scooter for two years when he left school. I dont actualy seem to worried, he has a good bit of sense about him.
(cant speak for his mum).
Had his first spin out yesterday and was fine.
yes I know he is wearing trainers and jeans, that is to be addressed.

I wish my own first bike had been so good, its 1999 with only 12,000 miles on it, powerfull enough I think.

My oldest (16) took the MSF course as soon as she turned 15. She doesn't ride much but she is licensed. She has a 85cc scooter and has ridden my wife's Rebel 250.

The next oldest hasn't said much about learning yet.

Yup, son on a Speedmaster and daughter on a Yamaha.

Nope but so far grand son is headed that way.

My daughter went through the MSF course almost two years ago. She rides my VStar-250 recreationally - we kept it for that reason. We took it up to college for her last fall, but she only put about 10 miles on it in a semester before we brought it back for the winter. She likes riding, better, she likes riding with me - just finds getting geared up, etc., inconvenient most of the time.

Both of mine ride. Their 25 & 23.

We've road in the dirt for years prior to getting their m/c option.

The youngest is the real owner of the '05 America & the '80 GS850G Suzuki (and one of the Yamaha 225 TTR's). I own a '72 H2 Kaw, a '71 H1, and a recently obtained '82 Honda CB900Custom (along with the other Yamaha 225 TTR & a Yamaha 350 Warrior).
The youngest was with me through four states & over 2k miles during this years GA. Rally a couple weeks ago.
Funny thing is, NEITHER ONE of them has any real interest in bikes or cars!!!
They'll ride the rallies & bikefests, but as far as regular, routine riding, they just don't care for it that much.
(I'm kinda ok with that)

The best part of riding with them is being able to critique they're riding skills.
(SOMETIMES, they get to see first hand that NO ONE rides flawlessly )
The worst part is seeing something that could be dangerous, and NOT BEING ABLE TO DO ****** at the moment except watch!!!
(Yes, THAT is the nerve racking part of it )

Due to the inherent dangers of riding in traffic, I don't think ANYONE should be able to ride in congested traffic until they have a MINIMUM of 20+ years (or 200k miles) of driving under their belts, and BOTH parents have passed on to a better place.
(Yea, GOOD LUCK with THAT ONE, ay!)

I'm a 3rd generation biker.

My grandad had a Vincent in the 50's, my mum has a Hnda 400/4 me dad has a Triumph 3HW. My uncle has a BMW and my future brother-in-law has a few Japanese bikes.

I do sometimes wonder what the parents think, but deep down I know they can't say anything....

Only my Grandfather rode before me. Our two older kids ride dirt bikes and would ride street if they had jobs that they could afford bikes. The youngest says he might ride, when he turns 16 and gets his license, we are sending him to TEAM Oregon to learn riding skills and get his endorsement. I expect he will ride after that.
I just remind myself that the kids are only on loan to us a little while, and then they are their own people. I hope they use their brains, but have pretty good insurance just in case.

My grandfather rode some. My dad not at all, he is kinda scared of them. And although I love riding, I never encouraged my kids to ride, other than small dirt bikes and mini bikes. Only my middle boy rides, and then rarely as he doesn't have one very often. I'm sorta glad my boys don't ride as it's one more thing I don't have to worry about.

I think my grandfather had an intrest, least I have a picture he had of a Scott, and my father had a Panther outfit, more out of neccissity probably, my father intriduced me to bikes by saying one day "Guy next door is selling a bike want to have a look". Condition was that I did all the courses of the time. So I guess my lad is keeping up the tradition.

My Dad used to, though I never saw him do it.

He used to take my Mum and eldest brother out by sidecar.

Of the 3 in my generation, both my eldest brother and (obviously) me, the youngest. I'm the only one who still does

Of the 5 in the next generation, there is only my daughter who wants to, (and she wants a standard Bonnie ) just can't afford it at mo.

Daughter who lived in Cambodia keeps asking if she can ride side saddle like all the women do on scooters over there but no interest so far.

He might not reply but capt_lou's son rides... that's me! So Dad is on a Speedmaster and I'm on an America. We keep trying to talk my sister in to just taking the MSF.

Father, uncle both had Triumphs, my brother also had a triumph in the 70's and still rides today. My father past away over 10 years ago, my uncle does not ride anymore. So it's all upto my brother and myself. None of my kids ride, but Bonnies daughter looks as though she will....

My 25 year old rides. Not quite sure where my Triumph is right now. As his car is in front of the house I figure the theft occurred sometime after midnight. It probably involved talking about bikes and girls prompting the midnight raid on the garage.

My son's been riding a year and a half now. He has Chy's old "Blue". He has attended 2 rally's so far. He rode all the way to AZ and back with half sport socks and training shoes. (He did have a full coverage helmet and mesh jacket and gloves though).

Not yet but looks like my gran d son is going to as I said above. Here is a shot of him at 4 yrs old last year. Had the bike running and he was reving the engine.

What a cute little guy, Ian. Did he lube the chain before he went on his "ride"?
