I've got a question about worn grooves on my brake rotors. I've noticed these on the Speedmaster for a while, while the rotors on my Daytona are still smooth. I'm probably replacing the rotors later this year; just wondering if this is normal wear (33k on stock rotors), and if not normal is there something else I need to take care of when replacement time comes? Here's a (blurry & little) shot of my groovy rotorr. Thanks, Will

are they really deep groves or just really shallow scrapes, barely get your nail into them sort of thing. If the other, then normal, even the EBC floating rotors look like that after only 3k or so.

It could be that something abrasive may have landed between the pads and the rotor. But unless there is some adverse affect on braking performance, or abnormal noise, not likely to be a serious concern. If the grooves are deep, as in scored into the rotor, then no, not normal.
I know I went through two sets of front and rear pads in the first 40K miles, and just replaced my rear pads again with the new tire at 84K, Saturday. As I have learned more about riding, I brake less and less? Anyway, as long as I don't feel a high "lip" on the outer edge of the rotor surface, I know they have not worn too much.
I might add, too, that my front rotors did warp early on, and I experienced that "pulsating" sensation when grabbing the front brake for a while, but it took care of itself without any action on my part (other than just riding the p**s out of her).

OK, thanks. I haven't noticed any problems with the performance of the brakes. Sounds like it's no big deal; I was just a little concerned to see the difference between the rotor wear on the two bikes. I'm on the 3rd set of pads on the SM, and have used sintered pads last two sets. Maybe that could have something to do with the wear on the rotors? I might go with organic pads when I replace these rotors.
Thanks,
Will
