I'm sure I'm not the only person on this forum that from time to time gets a compliment about the machines we ride that catches you completely by surprise? I was riding to work today. The first time in over 2 weeks after having performed my 20,000km service myself. Nice valve clearances now with my shims re-set to the correct factory tolerances for what I believe is their first time, my TBA experiencing its first outing on fully synthetic engine lube and the whole package running very sweetly indeed. I pull up at our security gatehouse where I enter my workplace and a new security officer, looks down at me & my machine, gives a big cheesy smile and says he as looks my 6 year old America over - "Bloody beautiful". I smiled back, mumbled some gratuatous thankyou or something to the same effect and rode off into the refinery where I work with a damn nice feeling inside. It doesn't happen every day, but when it does, gee I'm glad it was a Triumph Bonneville America I chose as my personal ride.

Cant count how many times I've been stuck at gas stations trying to get on down the road. After a while you almost start to expect it.
BTW.. that is a great lookin' bike!!

Just the other day while stopped at a red light, a car driver beeped his horn to get my attention so he could shout out a compliment.

Well, YOUR particular bike was accessorized is great style by the previous owner, so it doesn't surprise me that it gets mega compliments. What does surprise me is when it's parked right next to an awesome example of German craftsmanship, and the German meisterstuck doesn't even get passing attention. What's WRONG with people???

Let me off set you story there with some fun here. I got asked the other day, when was I gonna get a harley. I answered when they make a good one. He a stupid looking snobbish look on his face till then. Then he got all indignant. I have been working on all kinds of motorcycles after opening this shop. I promise ya, if I was had the money to buy a brand new bike of my choice, I would get another Triumph.

About a month ago, I had a guy offer to trade me his '03 Hurley Road King for my '03 Speedy, straight swap. I told him I'd rather drive a car...

I just returned home from a mountain ride with a stop at the local "Roadhouse". I talked to five different guys asking questions about my bike (all HD riders). All comments were positive and the two frequent statements were "Idid not know that they were making new bikes" & I use to have a (fill in the year) Triumph. A few asked me what the cost, when you tell them I usually hear.."Damn, thats 1/2 the price of my HD" You get use to it, Triumphs are a tradition, not over saturated and loved by most.
Ride like you mean it.

Yup, I was parking at work the other day and some SGT from the WA Nat'l Guard jams on his brakes in the middle of the road and jumps out of his car (leaving it in the middle of the road) to come drool (his word!) over my bike. And mine isn't much special - not to mention I'd been riding in the rain all week and she's filthy!!!
Speaking of riding in the rain and paying 1/2 the price - had a Heritage Softail rider at my last work that only rode in perfect weather, and didn't get why I rode in the rain. He said "I didn't pay $20,000 to get wet". I told him "I didn't pay $9,000 to leave it in the garage!"

One of my favorites is when they come up and say "They sure don't make 'em like this any more." Then I tell them, "Yep, in '05 they got a bigger motor".

yep HAHAHAHAHA i have often said, "if as many people that walked up to me to tell me they had a 19-- actually had one, it seems impossible Triumph could have had any finacial problems" seems they are around every corner or hanging at every 7-11 stop&rob just to tell me about the one they had. sometimes its nice but there are times that i just dont have the time or when i am with Mrs Newt when, what am i to do?? i feel the need to listen to them and dont want to seem rude i mean after all they felt they needed to take the time to admire mine and apperently they have some fond memory they need to share. OH THE TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS OF BEING A TRIUMPH OWNER
ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

Yes Myke, I have to be polite too.I am one of them after all. In 1970 on my Triumph 1955 T110 bobber/chop I used to attract young ladies. In 2012 on my Triumph 2007 America cruiser I attract old blokes

Yep,could be attracting attention Paul.I'm normally parked next to my mates Harley when it happens. He doesn't have Harley badges on it, which I suppose keeps the "Ooh look a Harley" crowd at bay.

hahaha And alloy wheels, blacked out motors. An aesthetic swap tween the two too.
"They don't make them like this anymore" is a standard line alright!

I was riding across the US a few years ago and stopped at one of these old, out-of-the-way gas stations in rural Tennessee. The pumps were the old manual type, so I checked with the 70+-year-old cashier and went back out to pump my gas.
When I walked back inside to pay, the old guy at the register looked out the window at my bike and asked, "What kind of motorsickle is that?"
"A Triumph", I replied.
The old man gave me my change and said, "Back in [I forgot the year], a guy on a Triumph stole my girlfriend."
I smiled and replied, "It wasn't me."
He grunted.
True story.

Yep Jim! And as you might know, that line even made its way into a movie a while back.
(fast forward to the 8:45 mark in this youtube video to watch the scene where it's said)
