As far as I could ever tell, the only advantage to having a chain guard is that it keeps chain cleaner and chain lube from sprayin' up towards certain parts of your bike after you've cleaned and lubed it.
(...and so, in the case of a certain dude in NE PA, I'd say there's probably NO reason at all for THAT GUY to have one on HIS bike anyway...RIGHT IAN?!)
