I saw this years ago. So what is your point? Mine is that you haven't walked the walk on having and raising kids. So instead of recognizing your lack of experience here, you post a you tube video of Hal Holbrook channelling Mark Twain.

I was trying to participate in a discussion about young people and kids and parenting.

There are many threads and postings on the site that I read, but decide that I have nothing useful to contribute, so I don't.

Ted, my point was to reply in somewhat of a jesting manner that MAYBE the world MIGHT be a better place IF there weren't quite as many people on it as the now 7 billion people currently inhabiting it. A figure which is now twice what it was just a scant 50 years ago.

AND, my point was, and once again offered up in a pointedly humorous manner(kinda like how the late great Mr. Samuel Langhorne Clemens, aka Mark Twain, might have appreciated) that while there may NOT have been any CHANGE in the ratio or percentage, past to present, of people who refuse to use their freakin' brains in the world as compared to the total population, but that just the sheer INCREASE in the number of people on this planet nowadays MEANS that there is probably now TWICE the number of dunderheads who refuse to use their freakin' brains as there was in 1960 running around among us!!!

And thus, it might follow that THIS might be the very reason why many people think that this LATEST generation has more dunderheads in it than did the PREVIOUS one!

(...get it NOW???...NO?!...in THAT case, the point REALLY IS, I'm FUNNIN' with ya, THAT'S all!!!)

So that would be more dunderheads by volume, and not necessarily by percentage?

So by sheer abundance it seems that there are more since they are more noticeable!

Btw Bill, NOW that this concept has been grasped, I might add that THIS was the very reason I left California.

Ya see, CONTRARY to what all the freakin' Yahoos in the REST of the country believe...that Calfornia has a higher percentage of dunderheads than does any of the other 49 states...it's ACTUALLY because California is BY FAR the most populous state in the Union, that THAT just means there's more freakin' dunderheads THERE than any ANY PLACE ELSE in the country now!!!

And as you well know, I don't, and never have suffered dunderheads GLADLY...and thus the reason for my fairly recent move to the less populated state of Arizona!

(...though I gotta say some of these freakin' Yahoos around HERE sometimes has me yearning for those days of rubbin' elbows with those freakin' dunderheads back in the Golden State again!!!)

OK, got it now. No worries.

You might be interested in a book by James Howard Kunstler, called "The Long Emergency" Paints a pretty bleak future.

I Wiki-ed the book's title, and yeah Ted, according to the synopsis there, it seems Mr. Kunstler does indeed paint a pretty bleak future, alright.

However, surprisingly so maybe, I still have hope that mankind will in the future continue to be able to figure out ways to limit and overcome the effects of any catastrophic events yet to come, and so I doubt we'll ever be linin' up for foodstuffs such as Soylent Green.

(...I know, that's probably kinda hard to believe that a dyed-in-the-wool cynic such as myself would say that, huh!)
